Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn Gameplay Mechanism
Since the game’s first announcement in late March of this year, it hasn’t received much interest. Although we did get a glimpse of the world and scenery a few months later, the gameplay has been relatively lackluster until their recent Gamescom trailer.
There was very little downtime during the 5-minute gameplay, which was definitely an action-packed experience. The gameplay showcased Nor and Enki (his supernatural fox-like companion) combat a wide range of enemies ranging from humans and monsters to more enigmatic beings. The combat mechanism is quite theatrical, with many “glory kill” slow-motion cinematic moments whenever Nor mercilessly dispatches an opponent.
Just like Devil May Cry, Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn will include a combo meter to track players’ combat score. This will help establish the amount of XP Nor will earn following each successful encounter. Every time she switches up her moves, her performance will be evaluated, encouraging players’ ingenuity and improvisation. As a power mage, Nor will be able to restore her flintlock bullets naturally whenever she performs melee attacks. In addition, successful ranged attacks would restore armour, urging Nor to get up close and personal with her enemies. This fantastic gaming cycle would result in a stunning, bloody flow of fierce melee and ranged attacks.
However, Players must carefully consider each strike when engaging in intense and impactful combat. The soldiers of the gods’ undead army are incredibly powerful. Their dark powers may alter the tides of combat with a few hits. Players must make use of their entire toolkit in order to battle some of the most powerful beings in the game. This includes employing black powder to its utmost capacity and fusing Nor’s agility with Enki’s most potent magic to weaken foes and take them out one by one.
While Nor will primarily be using an Axe as her melee weapon, Enki will largely act independently in combat. Enki will bring about Atreus in God of War‘s vibe including support attacks and teleportation. When the situation calls for it, you can instruct Enki to try out more advanced moves. He can also completely incapacitate enemies, holding them still while Nor shoots them from the sky. With a rich-open world that begs to be explored, Flintlock promises combat that is both engaging and dynamic.
Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn is scheduled for release in early 2023 for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
