Diablo V details: Spring 2029 and reported Plague Knight and loot plans

September 13, 2026 Off

Blizzard has confirmed Diablo V for Spring 2029, while reporting from its BlizzCon panel offers an early, provisional look at classes, loot and randomized spaces.

Diablo V is officially in development for Spring 2029, but the gameplay details emerging from its BlizzCon reveal remain provisional. Blizzard has confirmed a sequel set in a Sanctuary where Diablo has already triumphed. Reporting from the dedicated panel also points to a Plague Knight class, a large planned launch roster, procedurally generated spaces and item systems influenced by Diablo II.

The distinction between confirmed and reported information matters. Blizzard’s syndicated post-show recap confirms the game, its release window and its premise. The systems details come from PC Gamer’s report from the BlizzCon panel. That report says the project is a work in progress and subject to change, so none of the reported mechanics should be treated as final specifications.

What Blizzard has confirmed about Diablo V

Blizzard says Diablo V is officially in development and planned for Spring 2029. Its announcement establishes a reversal at the heart of the sequel: players will enter a Sanctuary where Diablo has triumphed and its heroes have been defeated.

Video Games Chronicle’s report from BlizzCon adds that Diablo general manager Joe Shely described an opening without towns or safe places waiting to protect players. Blizzard has not yet explained how that concept will affect vendors, social spaces, cooperative play or campaign progression.

Blizzard characterized its reveal panel as an early look at Diablo V’s world, classes and creative vision. The published recap does not provide a complete class list, name launch platforms or offer a detailed account of the loot and dungeon systems.

The reported class plans include a Plague Knight

PC Gamer reports that one of Diablo V’s new classes is the Plague Knight, described as a heavily armoured class that spreads disease around the battlefield. Blizzard’s available recap does not independently document the class’s abilities, weapons or role within the wider roster.

The same panel report says Blizzard intends Diablo V to launch with more classes than the combined launch line-ups of every previous Diablo game. It is an ambitious reported target, but no final number or full class list has been published.

For now, the Plague Knight is the only newly named class in the supplied panel coverage. It remains unclear how many archetypes Blizzard is planning, which established classes might return and how the proposed roster size would affect build depth or balance.

Reported loot plans draw on Diablo II

The early loot details provide one indication of Diablo V’s intended direction. PC Gamer reports that items will have tiers, belts and set items are planned to return, and some items will occupy multiple inventory slots as they did in Diablo II.

If implemented, multi-slot items would make inventory space a more consequential part of collecting loot: larger equipment could require players to choose what to carry, leave behind or sell. Blizzard has not explained whether Diablo V will reproduce Diablo II’s inventory system or use a different version of the idea.

The same caution applies to belts and sets. Their return was reported from the panel, but Blizzard has not detailed whether belts will hold consumables, how set bonuses might work or how either system will fit into the sequel’s broader itemization.

Procedurally generated spaces are reported, but the scope is unclear

PC Gamer also reports plans for procedurally generated dungeons and play spaces. The available reporting does not establish whether procedural generation will be confined to dungeons, how much handcrafted content will surround it or whether parts of the overworld will change between visits.

The reveal therefore should not be read as a complete design blueprint. Blizzard has confirmed the game’s development, setting and Spring 2029 window. The reported class, loot and procedural-generation plans offer an early indication of its direction, but they may change before launch.

What remains unknown about Diablo V

  • Platforms: Blizzard has not named the platforms on which Diablo V is planned to launch.
  • Launch class count: The reported ambition exceeds the combined launch rosters of previous Diablo games, but there is no final number or complete list.
  • Procedural-generation scope: It is unclear whether randomization will be limited to dungeons or extend to other areas.
  • Towns and safe spaces: Blizzard has not explained how vendors, social features, cooperative hubs or campaign progression will work if the game begins without conventional safe places.
  • Final item systems: Belts, sets, item tiers and multi-slot inventory items have been reported, but their exact implementation remains subject to change.

The clearest reading of the reveal is that Diablo V has a confirmed fallen-Sanctuary premise and a distant release window, accompanied by an early design pitch centered on a broad class roster, randomized spaces and more consequential inventory choices. The premise is official; many of the mechanical details are not yet final.
