Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny Remaster Brings Feudal Japan Back in 2025 – And We’re Ready for It

Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny Remaster Brings Feudal Japan Back in 2025 – And We’re Ready for It

Capcom is bringing Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny back from the depths of gaming history with a modern remaster set to launch in 2025. If you’ve been longing to step back into feudal Japan, slice through demonic samurai, and bask in PS2-era nostalgia, this is your moment.

And let’s be honest—it’s about time.

Fans of the Onimusha series have been begging Capcom for years to give the franchise some love. We got a remaster of Onimusha: Warlords in 2018, but then? Silence. Now, finally, Jubei Yagyu is making a triumphant return.

What Is Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny?

For those unfamiliar, Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny first dropped in 2002 for the PlayStation 2, and it was a sequel to the critically acclaimed Onimusha: Warlords. The game followed Jubei Yagyu, a lone samurai with a serious grudge, on his journey to avenge his fallen clan and take down the infamous warlord Nobunaga Oda.

Here’s the setup:

Nobunaga’s army wipes out the Yagyu clan in a brutal attack.

Jubei, the last surviving warrior, sets out for revenge.

Along the way, he discovers his oni heritage, granting him supernatural powers.

He teams up with allies who also have a bone to pick with Nobunaga.

Basically, if you like revenge-driven samurai epics with supernatural twists, this game is your jam.

Why This Remaster Is a Big Deal

You might be thinking, “Why should I care? Isn’t this just another remaster?”

Well, first off—it’s Onimusha.

Second, Capcom hasn’t really done much with the series since 2006’s Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams. And while we’ve seen other classic franchises get modern reboots (hello, Resident Evil 4 Remake), Onimusha has been left collecting dust.

This remaster signals something bigger:

Capcom is finally showing the Onimusha series some love again.

It could pave the way for full remakes, like what we’ve seen with Resident Evil.

It keeps the hype alive for Onimusha: Way of the Sword, the new mainline entry coming in 2026.

What to Expect From the Onimusha 2 Remaster

Capcom hasn’t fully spilled the details yet, but if Onimusha: Warlords Remastered is anything to go by, we can expect:

Updated visuals – Expect sharper textures, improved lighting, and maybe some modern quality-of-life tweaks.

Smoother controls – The original game used tank controls, which, let’s be honest, were a bit clunky. Hopefully, Capcom refines movement while keeping that classic feel.

Modern platform availability – The remaster is coming to PC, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One. No PS5 or Series X|S upgrade announced yet, but fingers crossed.

No microtransactions – Please, Capcom. Let’s keep this remaster pure.

The Future of Onimusha: Way of the Sword

While Onimusha 2’s remaster is exciting, there’s even bigger news brewing: Capcom is working on a brand-new Onimusha game called Onimusha: Way of the Sword, set to release in 2026.

Here’s what we know so far:

Focus on “ultimate sword fighting action” – Expect fluid combat, improved mechanics, and a deeper samurai experience.

Stunning Kyoto setting – Capcom wants to make feudal Japan feel more alive than ever.

Compelling characters – Hopefully, this means an epic story with memorable allies and villains.

Could Onimusha: Way of the Sword be the Ghost of Tsushima meets Devil May Cry we’ve been waiting for? It sure sounds like it. And if Onimusha 2’s remaster does well, maybe Capcom will be more inclined to give Way of the Sword the AAA treatment it deserves.
