Jason Isaacs Teams Up with Sophie Turner for Amazon’s Lara Croft Series

Jason Isaacs is set to join the hotly anticipated Amazon’s live-action Tomb Raider show, appearing alongside Sophie Turner as Lara Croft. Amazon isn’t revealing who Isaacs will play, but his casting adds even more weight to the upcoming series.

This adaptation is helmed by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who’s leading as creator, writer, executive producer, and co-showrunner. With a team like this assembling behind Tomb Raider, Prime Video is clearly banking on Lara’s next adventure making a cultural impact well beyond the games.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge Brings Star Power On and Off Screen

Waller-Bridge, fresh off successes like Fleabag, Killing Eve, and a high-profile turn in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, is shaping the show’s vision from the ground up. Jonathan Van Tulleken will direct and executive produce, keeping the project’s direction tight, while Chad Hodge joins as co-showrunner and executive producer.

This isn’t just a retelling of Croft’s early escapades. The cast list alone signals ambition: alongside Turner and Isaacs, we’ve got British actor Martin Bobb-Semple taking a yet-to-be-revealed “major” role. Hollywood legend Sigourney Weaver also joins as a character named Wallace. Weaver, famous for Alien and Avatar, isn’t sparing any praise, describing the scripts as “incredible, and very funny, very charming, very witty.“

Another fresh link between the games and the series: Alix Wilton Regan will voice Lara in both Catalyst and in Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, which remakes the very first Croft adventure. Crystal Dynamics and Amazon seem fully committed to making this a multimedia comeback for Lara’s legacy.

Sophie Turner’s casting as Croft brings another layer of curiosity. After Game of Thrones, all eyes are on how she’ll tackle one of gaming’s most iconic roles. And with the rest of this cast, expectations are sky high.
