Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Launches Oct 25—Get Ready for Rogue Ops, Zombies, and New Multiplayer Madness!
October 22, 2024The much-awaited Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 launches soon, and fans are gearing up to jump into the latest instalment. Pre-loads have already begun for those who pre-ordered, allowing players to be battle-ready for day one. Here’s everything you need to know before you dive in.
Table of Contents
New Multiplayer Maps, Modes, and Omnimovement
One of the most exciting features of Black Ops 6 is the multiplayer mode. The game offers 16 new maps, categorized into Core 6v6 and compact-sized Strike maps for both 6v6 and 2v2 configurations. During the beta, maps like Scud, Rewind, Skyline, Babylon, and Derelict were showcased, each bringing intense action. However, new maps like Lowtown, a dockside neighbourhood with swim-ready canals, and Vault, a desert landscape with opulent features, are set to elevate the multiplayer experience.
Additionally, the game introduces an all-new core 6v6 mode, Kill Order, where the mission is to eliminate the enemy’s High-Value Target (HVT) while safeguarding your own. For more daring players, Hardcore Mode makes a return, with features like a limited HUD, friendly fire enabled, and lower health, promising an extra thrill to every match.
The most anticipated change to gameplay comes from the introduction of Omnimovement. This is marketed as the most fluid, boots-on-the-ground movement system in Call of Duty’s history, across all modes. Omnimovement was designed to emulate spy-thriller action scenes, letting players pull off those stylish moves you’d expect in a Bond flick or a Mission Impossible sequence.
New Arsenal and Equipment Upgrades
Weaponry in Black Ops 6 is getting a massive upgrade, with a streamlined menu to help customize and level up gear intuitively. Expect classic Black Ops weapons, as well as all-new additions to the series. For the first time, players have a third melee slot, giving you a knife or bat for when things get close and chaotic. This creates more versatile combat experiences and new strategies for every match.
Notably, there’s an exciting new War Cry Field Upgrade, which boosts nearby teammates’ movement speed and health regeneration temporarily. Choosing Perks and Wildcards strategically is key, with each decision affecting your combat effectiveness. With tactical and lethal equipment, Field Upgrades, and Scorestreaks unlocking over time, you’ll have plenty to master.
Rogue Black Ops vs. Crimson One
The narrative at the heart of Black Ops 6 revolves around two opposing factions: Rogue Black Ops and Crimson One. The Rogue Black Ops squad is on the run after being betrayed by their former employers. This group is now seeking revenge by exposing a conspiracy within the CIA. Because they lack state backing, their gear is either improvised or acquired from other sources, creating a scrappy, underdog feel to their missions.
On the other side is Crimson One, a CIA operation tasked with hunting down Rogue Black Ops. They have full access to CIA resources and intelligence, giving them the upper hand in firepower and strategy. As players progress, they’ll unlock over 20 Operators, each aligned to one of these factions, bringing unique skills and narratives to the multiplayer experience.
Round-Based Zombies and Epic Map Content
Round-Based Zombies is back, baby! The return of this fan-favourite mode in Black Ops 6 brings a wealth of fresh gameplay, narrative, and maps. Players will continue the Dark Aether storyline, first introduced in Black Ops Cold War. This time, players can join the dedicated crew of Weaver, Grey, Carver, and Maya—the heart of the Zombies mode, known as the Terminus team. They’ll be key to driving the narrative and leading players into a robust and intense zombie-fighting experience.
At launch, players will have two new maps to explore: Terminus and Liberty Falls. Both maps offer unique challenges, with additional maps set to be released post-launch. Players can also look forward to the return of Perk-a-Colas, Field Upgrades, Wonder Weapons, GobbleGums, and Ammo Mods. However, Black Ops 6 introduces a new feature called Augments, which allows for the customization of these familiar elements.
One feature that’s likely to relieve many solo players is the ability to save solo matches at any time (provided they aren’t actively engaged in an exfil, downed, or at low health). This new mechanic adds flexibility to solo zombie runs and opens up more strategic play.
Progression and Prestige: Back to the Roots
In Black Ops 6, Treyarch is bringing back a traditional Prestige system, expanding on past iterations and making it more rewarding than ever. After reaching the max level (Level 55), players can choose to Prestige, reset their levels, and go after exclusive rewards. Players will unlock content by performing well, completing objectives, earning medals, and finishing challenges like Calling Card and Reticle Challenges.
Each weapon, equipment, Field Upgrade, and Scorestreak now comes with its own MP and Zombies Master Badges, giving you a clear goal and bragging rights as you master each piece of gear.
Zombies Aren’t the Only Bad Guys—Watch for Post-Launch Surprises
Treyarch and Activision are known for their dedication to delivering ongoing content and surprises throughout each Call of Duty season. Players can expect additional maps, weapons, and gameplay updates following the launch, creating more reasons to jump back in after the October 25 release. Whether you’re chasing new Operator skins, exploring new maps, or experiencing unexpected plot twists, Black Ops 6 aims to keep the adrenaline flowing.
