Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen targets 30fps on Switch 2, not native 60fps

Capcom’s producer says Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen targets a 30fps base on Switch 2 in handheld and TV modes.

Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen is not confirmed to render natively at 60fps on Nintendo Switch 2. In an original interview published by V Jump, producer Naoto Oyama said the game targets a 30fps base frame rate in both handheld and TV modes. Capcom is using optional FSR frame generation to insert an interpolated frame between rendered frames, with the aim of producing a 60fps-equivalent presentation.

That distinction matters for anyone deciding whether to buy the Switch 2 version. Frame generation can improve the apparent smoothness of motion, but it does not turn a 30fps base into conventional native 60fps rendering.

Capcom has scheduled Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen for Nintendo Switch 2 on October 9, 2026. The Switch 2 release combines the main game and its expansion, according to Capcom’s official announcement.

Why Capcom calls the result 60fps-equivalent

Oyama said it would be inaccurate to describe the Switch 2 version simply as running at 60fps. The game works from a 30fps base and uses frame generation to create an extra, interpolated image between rendered frames. The intended result is smoother-looking motion comparable to a 60fps presentation.

In practical terms, the important split is this:

  • Base performance: The game targets 30fps in handheld and TV modes, according to Oyama.
  • Presentation with frame generation: Motion can appear closer to 60fps because generated frames are inserted between rendered frames.
  • Native 60fps: Capcom has not claimed that the Switch 2 version renders natively at 60fps.

That makes the Switch 2 port different from a game that renders every displayed frame at 60fps. It may look smoother with frame generation enabled, but buyers should not read “60fps-equivalent” as confirmation of native 60fps performance.

Frame generation will be optional

Oyama said frame generation can create artifact-like afterimages in some situations, particularly around effects and moving interface elements. The retail version will therefore include an on/off setting for the feature. Players who prefer the smoother presentation will be able to enable frame generation, while those more bothered by visible artifacts can disable it. Capcom has not confirmed in the reviewed sources whether the setting will be enabled by default.

What this means for responsiveness

Capcom has also acknowledged a potential responsiveness trade-off. Oyama said generated frames can make delay easier to notice and that the team adjusted its implementation to reduce that perception. This is the developer’s characterization, however, rather than the result of independent testing.

No independent controller-latency measurements, frame-time tests or image-quality analyses were included in the reporting reviewed for this article. The safest expectation is therefore a version targeting a 30fps base with an optional smoothing feature, rather than a confirmed native 60fps port. The reviewed sources also do not establish how consistently the game holds its target during busy combat, large-city exploration or effects-heavy scenes.

What remains unconfirmed

Capcom has not detailed the following points in the sources reviewed for this article:

  • The Switch 2 version’s resolution or dynamic-resolution behavior in handheld and TV play.
  • Whether frame generation will be enabled by default in the retail release.
  • Measured input latency and artifact frequency with frame generation enabled and disabled.
  • How consistently the game maintains its targeted 30fps base in demanding scenes.
