GTA 6’s 7.71 Million Pre-Orders Are an Estimate, Not an Official Total

The figures, including a reported 74% PS5 share, have not been confirmed by Rockstar or Take-Two.

Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive have not publicly confirmed that Grand Theft Auto VI has reached nearly eight million pre-orders. The widely shared claim comes from reports citing Sensor Tower’s GTA VI tracker, not from a sales announcement by the game’s publisher.

Reports published on November 5 and 6, 2026, attribute 7.71 million pre-orders and $751 million in estimated pre-order revenue to the tracker. The same reported reading assigns 74% of those pre-orders to PlayStation 5 and 26% to Xbox Series X|S. WN Hub attributed the figures to Sensor Tower’s tracker, while GamesRadar+ also characterized the revenue total as an analyst estimate.

The figures can be reported as Sensor Tower estimates, but they should not be presented as confirmed sales data from Rockstar, Take-Two, Sony or Microsoft.

What the Sensor Tower GTA 6 estimate covers

Sensor Tower’s official GTA VI tracker page says it tracks estimated worldwide pre-orders, copies sold and revenue, with comparisons between PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Sensor Tower has separately described it as a live tracker updated weekly.

However, the public tracker text reviewed for this report does not explain the exact methodology behind the current GTA 6 figures. It does not establish the tracker’s retailer coverage, treatment of different editions, handling of refunds or whether its estimate includes or excludes physical and code-in-box orders.

Sensor Tower’s broader Video Game Insights documentation says its data are based on estimates and may depend on third-party suppliers and applications whose accuracy cannot be guaranteed. The detailed methodology in that document is focused on Steam rather than the GTA VI console tracker, so it does not explain how these particular figures were calculated. It does support treating them as modelled analytics data rather than audited sales data.

What Rockstar and Take-Two have confirmed

Rockstar’s official store confirms that GTA VI pre-orders are available and says pre-load begins on November 10, 2026. However, the GTA VI store listing does not display a cumulative pre-order count or revenue total.

Take-Two has publicly described the response without providing a number. In its fiscal 2027 first-quarter supplemental information, the company said GTA VI had “an exceptional start to pre-orders” ahead of its November 19, 2026 release. The investor presentation does not disclose pre-order units, revenue or a PS5-versus-Xbox breakdown.

Is the reported 74% PS5 share official?

No. The reported 74% PS5 and 26% Xbox Series X|S split is also attributed to Sensor Tower’s estimate. Neither the retrieved publisher material nor the official storefront provides a platform breakdown, and the reported percentages should not be treated as verified order counts from Sony or Microsoft.

The safest conclusion is that Take-Two has officially characterized GTA VI’s start to pre-orders as exceptional, while the specific 7.71 million, $751 million and 74% PS5 figures remain third-party estimates. Unless Rockstar or Take-Two publishes a matching total, the near-eight-million claim is not an official GTA 6 sales milestone.
