GTA 6 Release Date Still Locked for Fall 2025—Take-Two Dismisses Delay Fears

GTA 6 Release Date Still Locked for Fall 2025—Take-Two Dismisses Delay Fears

Rockstar Swears GTA 6 Isn’t Delayed—But Should We Believe Them?

By Ibraheem Adeola

If you’re one of the millions of fans counting down the days until Grand Theft Auto 6 finally hits the streets, Take-Two Interactive wants you to know one thing: it’s still on track for fall 2025.

Despite a storm of rumours, whispers of development struggles, and industry insiders speculating about a possible push to 2026, Take-Two has reaffirmed that Rockstar’s long-awaited sequel is still dropping in autumn.

But let’s be honest—this is GTA 6 we’re talking about. We’ve been waiting over a decade since GTA 5 dropped, so hearing anything about a possible delay sends gamers into a spiral faster than a five-star police chase in Los Santos.

Take-Two’s Confidence vs. The Delay Rumors

As part of its Q3 FY 2025 earnings report, Take-Two doubled down on its original timeline. Alongside upcoming releases like Sid Meier’s Civilization 7 (February), Mafia: The Old Country (Summer), and Borderlands 4, the company specifically mentioned GTA 6 as a fall 2025 release.

So why are people still freaking out about a delay?

Well, reports have swirled for months that GTA 6’s development has “fallen behind” schedule. Initially, Rockstar had allegedly aimed for a spring 2025 release, but that timeline slipped, leading to a fallback target of autumn 2025. And if things really go sideways? Some reports claim 2026 is the emergency backup plan.

However, industry insider Jason Schreier has already called those rumours “unfounded.” And for now, Take-Two is sticking to their gunsGTA 6 is still set to crash onto our consoles this fall.

The Rockstar Perfectionism Factor

If there’s one thing we know about Rockstar, it’s that they don’t rush games out the door. CEO Strauss Zelnick even acknowledged this in a recent interview with IGN, saying:

“We know that Rockstar seeks perfection… Our whole organization is super excited.”

Translation? Rockstar isn’t about to drop an unfinished game. They’ve seen what happens when developers release broken games (cough Cyberpunk 2077 cough), and they want no part of that disaster.

This means one of two things:

1️⃣ Rockstar truly has things under control, and we’ll get GTA 6 this fall.

2️⃣ If the game isn’t 100% perfect, they won’t hesitate to delay it—no matter what Take-Two says right now.

And let’s be real… Rockstar loves a good delay.

Why the Stakes for GTA 6 Are So High

A GTA 6 delay wouldn’t just be a frustration for fans—it would be a major financial problem for Take-Two.

  • GTA 5 has sold over 195 million copies since 2013, making it one of the best-selling games of all time.
  • Rockstar’s last game, Red Dead Redemption 2, has surpassed 61 million copies sold.
  • GTA 6 is expected to shatter records, and a delay could mean billions in lost revenue.

Simply put—Take-Two needs this game to drop in 2025. If it slips to 2026, shareholders won’t be happy.

Will We Actually Get a Release Date Soon?

Despite Take-Two’s reassurances, we still don’t have an exact date—just “fall 2025.”

So when can we expect a real release date?

🔹 Rockstar usually drops major updates on its own terms, so don’t expect a huge E3-style event.

🔹 If there’s a delay, Rockstar will likely announce it by summer—before pre-orders start rolling in.

🔹 If we’re lucky, a new trailer could land soon with a confirmed release date.

Until then? We’ll all just have to keep refreshing Twitter/X and praying we don’t see the words “GTA 6 delayed to 2026.”
