PS4 Players Lose PUBG Trophies as Game Switches to PS5—Progress Won’t Transfer
November 5, 2025Ready or not, PUBG is leaving last-gen consoles behind next week, and if you’re a PlayStation player, all your hard-earned trophies are about to hit the reset button.
The developers behind PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds have announced that the game will no longer be playable on PS4 and Xbox One as of November 13. This isn’t just a simple upgrade. The PUBG team confirmed that, on PlayStation, all previously earned trophies will be wiped with the switch to the PS5 version. You’ll have to unlock everything again—yes, even those ones you struggled with back in 2017.
You Can’t Bring Your Trophies, but Here’s Why
The sharp cutoff isn’t just a design choice. In their latest update, the dev team explained they tried to find a way to transfer trophies but hit a technical wall. “We explored various options with Sony Interactive Entertainment to make trophy transfer possible, but due to the large volume of related data, we confirmed that it is technically difficult to implement,” reads their official blog post. They’ve asked for patience as the transition happens. Translation: PlayStation users are starting from scratch.
For Xbox players, the transition is more straightforward. If you already have PUBG installed on your Xbox, the update will roll you into the current-gen version automatically. PlayStation users aren’t as lucky, though; to keep playing on PS5, you’ll need to manually download an entirely new application. That also means your in-game settings are gone. Hope you remember which sensitivity setting you liked, because you’re setting it all up again.
What to Expect from the Next-Gen Transition

This change lands as part of Update 38.2, which goes live on November 13. Preloading opens a day earlier, on November 12.
When the update is live, here’s how things will stack up on supported consoles:
- Xbox Series S: 1080p/1440p at 60fps or 30fps
- Xbox Series X: 2160p at 60fps
- PlayStation 5: 1440p at 60fps
- PlayStation 5 Pro: 2160p at 60fps
It’s a clear technical leap for the current-gen versions. But don’t expect a seamless handover for your settings, your achievements, or your status, especially if you’re on PlayStation. If you’ve been grinding trophies for years, you’re likely feeling the sting right now. As for the PS4 and Xbox One era, this is the end of the road. After November 13, there’s no going back, the old versions will become unplayable, marking a clean break between generations.
What Else Is Happening in the PUBG Universe?
Outside of the main game, PUBG creator Brendan Greene is prepping something very different. His new project, Prologue: Go Wayback!, ditches the guns and goes all-in on survival. This one swaps battle royale intensity for pure survival skills; think less shooting, more resourcefulness. If you’re a die-hard PUBG player on PlayStation, your next victory just got a lot more meaningful. History won’t save you this time.
