RuneScape Reignited cancelled: What still happens December 2
October 17, 2026Jagex cancelled the proposed RuneScape Reignited fresh-start project 10 days after announcing it.
Jagex has cancelled RuneScape Reignited, the proposed fresh-start project announced for December 2, 2026. That does not mean RuneScape itself has been cancelled. Jagex says the Adventure Guide, the first part of the Remastered Journey, a limited membership trial for eligible characters and its 2027 roadmap remain planned.
In an official update published October 15, Mod Ryan said Jagex had received different perspectives on the proposal and would not proceed with it. Reignited had been publicly announced by Jagex on October 5, so the cancellation came 10 calendar days later.
“Considering this, we have made the decision to cancel Reignited.”

What Jagex cancelled—and what it did not

Reignited was a proposed fresh-start RuneScape project, not a replacement for the existing game. Jagex’s original RuneFest announcement described a December 2 launch featuring a fresh economy, new hi-scores and a remastered journey. That specific Reignited project will no longer launch.
Jagex says these related plans remain in place:
The Adventure Guide and the first part of the Remastered Journey are still scheduled for release on December 2.
A 10-day RuneScape membership trial is still planned for December 2–12, 2026. It will apply to new characters and characters without active membership since June 2, 2026.
The trial does not apply to Old School RuneScape. Jagex has not yet confirmed its precise start and end times.
Jagex says its 2027 roadmap remains in place, although its published terms note that the roadmap is subject to change.
In short, the Reignited fresh-start project is cancelled. The December 2 Adventure Guide and first Remastered Journey release are not, nor is the separate trial for eligible RuneScape characters.
Why did Jagex cancel RuneScape Reignited?
Jagex has framed the decision around feedback from existing players, but it has not published figures showing how many people responded or whether one position represented a majority. Its October 15 statement says the company received “a ton of different perspectives” before deciding that it had missed the mark.
Jagex had summarized the concerns it said it was hearing in an October 6 community post. These included fears that Reignited could split the community, make veteran characters and worlds less relevant, restrict interactions between different character types and require a separate membership subscription for a new character.
Those concerns placed the fresh-start pitch in tension with existing players’ characters, progression and communities. Jagex ultimately said its attempt to attract returning and new players should not come at the expense of its established community.
What RuneScape players should expect next
December 2 remains the next date to watch. According to Jagex, the Adventure Guide and the first Remastered Journey release are due that day, while the 10-day membership trial is scheduled to begin for characters that meet its eligibility conditions.
Old School RuneScape is expressly excluded from the trial. Jagex’s cancellation update also does not say whether work or ideas developed for Reignited will be used elsewhere.
The company has not explained whether cancelling Reignited will change the scope of the December releases or any longer-term roadmap items. Its official updates remain the clearest source of current information, particularly because the exact trial start and end times have not been announced.
