Mallory Gibbs: The Rise of Hero

Mallory’s life takes a dramatic turn when a spell cast by Doctor Strange to eliminate a reanimated Sentry inadvertently disperses his powers among several civilians. Mallory, among those affected, discovers her newfound abilities in a catastrophic event that leads to the destruction of her apartment building. Overwhelmed and seeking solitude, she retreats to the Moon, grappling with the implications of her powers.
Among the other recipients of the Sentry’s powers is Ryan Topper, a teenager who adopts the moniker “Ryan Sentry.” Unlike Mallory, Ryan becomes consumed by his abilities, embarking on a violent quest to eliminate the other empowered individuals to consolidate their powers. His actions pose a significant threat, prompting Mallory to confront him. With assistance from the spirits of Ryan’s victims, Mallory manages to absorb their powers, ultimately defeating Ryan and preventing further destruction.
Following these events, Mallory turns herself in to the Aberrant Crimes Division, seeking guidance to control her powers. Misty Knight, a seasoned hero with a bionic arm and a history of mentoring young heroes, takes Mallory under her wing. Recognising the need to establish her own identity separate from the Sentry, Mallory adopts the name “Solarus,” symbolising a new beginning and her commitment to heroism.
Solarus’s Potential in the Marvel Universe

She already understands the fundamentals of being a superhero well before she begins her first official mission as Solarus

Mallory Gibbs brings more than raw power to the table—she brings perspective. Even before she takes her first official step as Solarus, she already understands what separates a hero from a powerhouse: accountability. In Sentry #4, Mallory reflects on Robert Reynolds, saying that without the Void, “he really tried to be a good, honourable hero.” That insight shows she grasps the moral weight of her role, something many heroes only learn the hard way. With training from someone like Misty Knight, that foundation is only going to strengthen.
Misty Knight, fresh off major victories—including a standout win over Venom—and a deeper narrative tie-in to Sam Wilson’s Captain America, has solidified herself as a force in the Marvel Universe. Beyond her own spotlight, she’s become a mentor, shaping the next generation. From Miles Morales to now Solarus, Misty’s influence continues to ripple. Being her protégé instantly boosts Mallory’s credibility, positioning her not just as a successor to the Sentry but as someone who could soon carve out her own place among Marvel’s mightiest heroes.
