Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse Sets 2027 Release After Lengthy Delays and Sneak Peek at CinemaCon

November 23, 2025 Off By Ibraheem Adeola

After a tangled web of delays, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse finally lands a June 18, 2027, release date. This third chapter, closing out Sony’s acclaimed animated Spider-Verse trilogy, promises the definitive end to Miles Morales’ arc, and fans have been waiting a long time.

Originally, Across and Beyond were supposed to be one epic sequel split into two parts, with release schedules set just months apart. That all changed as production stresses mounted. Resources shifted to finishing Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (which did drop in 2023), and then came the curveball: the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strikes, grinding recording booths to a halt. Suddenly, Beyond disappeared from Sony’s calendar, a blow that left the fandom in limbo.

Now the dust is finally settling. The creative team is unapologetic about taking their time. Writer Phil Lord and co-directors Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson told CinemaCon audiences in March 2025 that they “want to get the finale right.” It’s not just about closing off a trilogy; it’s about sticking the landing for one of the most ambitious superhero experiments in animation.

Where the Story Picks Up, and Who’s Coming Back?

Phil Lord confirmed the plot kicks off exactly where Across the Spider-Verse left viewers—right at the moment Miles Morales finds himself trapped in a universe not his own, staring down an alternate, Prowler-version of himself. He’s stranded, without a way home. Gwen Stacy and a team of fellow Spider-heroes set up for a rescue mission, ready to defy the Spider Society and its brooding leader, Miguel O’Hara/Spider-Man 2099.

“There’s not going to be a dry eye in the house,” teased Brian Tyree Henry, who voices Miles’ dad, Jefferson Davis. The stakes feel massive. Not only is Spot now supremely powerful, threatening the fabric of the multiverse, but the emotional tensions within the Spider team promise genuine weight. Team-ups, betrayals, maybe even casualties, this is looking like a true superhero climax.

The returning voice cast is stacked: Shameik Moore (Miles), Hailee Steinfeld (Gwen), Oscar Isaac (Miguel), Daniel Kaluuya (Hobie), Issa Rae (Jessica Drew), Amandla Stenberg (Margo/Spider-Byte), and many more. The likes of Peter B. Parker (Jake Johnson), Spider-Noir (Nicolas Cage), Peni Parker (Kimiko Glenn), and Spider-Ham (John Mulaney) are also expected, thanks to the cliffhanger and rescue plotline.

Cameos were abundant in Across the Spider-Verse; Andy Samberg, Jack Quaid, and Ayo Edebiri, among them, but none have been shown for this finale yet. If you’re hoping for more Spider-Society surprises, keep an eye on updates in the next two years.

The timeline for production has been as multiversal as the movies themselves. The cast have trickled out updates: Karan Soni (Pavitr Prabhakar) was prepping to record in late 2024, while Jharrel Jerome (Earth-42 Prowler Miles) noted in early 2025 that he hadn’t even started. Main star Shameik Moore shared he’d be recording in August 2025, while Hailee Steinfeld and Greta Lee (the Spider Society’s AI Lyla) both finished sessions that autumn. Jason Schwartzman (Spot) and Jake Johnson (Peter B. Parker) have played coy about their involvement and recording schedules, adding a layer of mystery.

On the creative side, Daniel Pemberton returns for composing duties. If you loved the first two films’ pulse-pounding scores, he’s set to carry that sonic identity through to the trilogy’s curtain call. Images presented at CinemaCon 2025 gave press and insiders a taste of what’s to come, but the filmmakers are holding back most plot details, and none of the sneak peeks offered serious spoilers.

All signs point to this movie being the emotional and visual high point of the Spider-Verse saga. The team refuses to rush a frame. By locking in a 2027 release date, which they say leaves plenty of room to finish without compromise, fans are finally getting some clarity. Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is on track to cap the trilogy with a bang in what’s shaping up to be a monster year for movies.

Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is directed by Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson, and written by Dave Callaham, Phil Lord, and Christopher Miller. Producers include Lord, Miller, Avi Arad, Amy Pascal, and Jinko Gotoh.
