Warcraft III Forsaken Kingdom: Requirements, Price and What’s Free

Forsaken Kingdom is a paid Warcraft III: Reforged campaign, not a standalone release.

Warcraft III: Reforged: Forsaken Kingdom became available on September 12, 2026, as a paid campaign add-on rather than a standalone game. According to Blizzard’s release announcement, players must own Warcraft III: Reforged to play it. Existing Reforged owners receive the accompanying Definitive Edition update’s broadly described performance and graphical improvements at no additional cost.

The practical distinction is straightforward: Forsaken Kingdom is the paid part if you want the new campaign, while buying it is not required to receive the free improvements Blizzard has confirmed for Reforged owners.

Do you need Warcraft III: Reforged for Forsaken Kingdom?

Yes. Blizzard explicitly says Forsaken Kingdom requires Warcraft III: Reforged. The campaign is DLC for Reforged, so purchasing Forsaken Kingdom by itself will not provide everything needed to play.

For newcomers, Reforged is Blizzard’s recreation of Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos and its expansion, The Frozen Throne. Forsaken Kingdom adds campaign content to that existing release rather than replacing it with another edition.

How much does Forsaken Kingdom cost?

Blizzard’s release announcement says the campaign is available through the Battle.net Shop but does not state a price in the material reviewed for this article. PC Gamer reported a $30 US launch price.

That figure was not independently confirmed from the sign-in-gated storefront during research, so buyers should check the live Battle.net listing before purchasing. Regional prices and any Reforged bundle options may differ from the reported US standalone price.

What does the paid campaign include?

Blizzard lists a new prologue, three campaign chapters and a neutral Forsaken Paladin hero unit as parts of Forsaken Kingdom. Its story connects the period following Lordaeron’s fall with a later era in Azeroth’s history.

The release announcement does not provide a complete mission list, a campaign-length estimate or a detailed account of further gameplay additions. Those details should not be assumed from the announced chapter count alone.

Forsaken Kingdom is also historically notable. PC Gamer describes it as the first new Warcraft III campaign since The Frozen Throne arrived in 2003—a gap of 23 years at the time of this release.

What is free for existing Reforged owners?

Existing Reforged players receive the Definitive Edition update’s performance and graphical improvements at no additional cost, according to Blizzard. They do not need to purchase Forsaken Kingdom to receive those announced improvements.

Blizzard’s launch post provides only those broad categories, not a complete feature-by-feature Version 3.0 breakdown. It therefore does not establish that particular editor, LAN, interface, multiplayer, unit-selection or graphics-mode changes are included for every owner. Blizzard identifies its official Warcraft III: Reforged forums as a venue for announcements, developer publications and patch notes.

The quick purchase breakdown

  • You own Reforged and want the new story content: Forsaken Kingdom is the paid campaign add-on.
  • You own Reforged but do not want the campaign: Blizzard says the announced performance and graphical improvements are still provided at no additional cost.
  • You do not own Reforged: Forsaken Kingdom alone is not enough because the base release is required.
  • Price is your deciding factor: PC Gamer reported a $30 US launch price, but check the current Battle.net total and regional availability before buying.

In short, Forsaken Kingdom pays for new Warcraft III campaign content. The accompanying performance and graphical improvements Blizzard has confirmed are free for players who already have access to Reforged.
