Battlefield 6 Hits Back at XP Grind, Plans Major Overhaul of Attachment Unlocks and Portal Servers

Battlefield 6 Hits Back at XP Grind, Plans Major Overhaul of Attachment Unlocks and Portal Servers

October 18, 2025 Off By Ibraheem Adeola

Battlefield 6 is about to get a lot less grindy. In a big move aimed squarely at its dedicated community, Battlefield Studios revealed that it’s slashing the time it takes to earn XP and unlock weapon attachments, a response to months of player frustration over the game’s slow progression.

The changes are rolling out in the next week, and here’s what you need to know: XP gains from finishing a match are increasing by 10%, and the daily bonus XP jumps by a whopping 40%. For anyone sick of staring at locked attachments, there’s more good news. The XP required for the first 20 attachment upgrades is getting cut, so you’ll start seeing new gear nearly twice as quickly.

That’s not all. Assignments, the in-game challenges that unlock new cosmetics and content, have been a pain point, especially when they’re locked behind higher career ranks. The studio is dropping the thresholds here too. Assignments that needed rank 20, 23, or 26 will unlock at 10, 15, and 20 instead. It means you’ll be able to start working on these challenges much earlier in your Battlefield career.

Players Fed Up with the Grind, and XP Farms Ruining Portal

Battlefield Studios says it’s well aware that these tweaks are overdue. “Our goals here are to make the progression experience feel smoother and more rewarding while still keeping that sense of achievement when you complete a milestone like fully mastering a weapon,” the team explained. They also admit there’s more work to be done, with current assignment challenges causing headaches for many. “We are aware of the frustrations regarding the challenges themselves and are actively working on reviewing them, but it will take more time to develop, test and implement these changes.”

Outside of XP gains, there’s another issue looming over Battlefield 6: Portal servers are getting clogged by XP farmers. Portal lets players set up their own custom matches, but too many are using it almost entirely for grinding XP, artificially inflating stats, or racking up accolades against bots. The studio laid it out plainly: “A large number of these servers were created primarily to earn XP, inflate player stats, and earn special accolades through defeating bots.”

They get why players want easier progression or a pressure-free way to test out new loadouts. But with so many servers focused on stat-padding, it’s making it tough for genuine players to find real multiplayer lobbies. “With so many servers focused on farming XP rather than active play, it’s become noticeably harder for players to create and find experiences to play with other people.”

Portal Fixes Incoming, Plus More Updates on the Horizon

Studio reps say they’re working on fixes for Portal servers that will “diminish the number of XP farms taking up server space while further emphasising playing with friends on both custom and verified experiences.” The plan is to steer Portal back toward actual play and away from ghost lobbies full of bots and stat grinders. It’s not just XP and Portal on the to-do list. Battlefield Studios also nodded to player concerns over visibility, weapon bloom, and vehicle spawning. While specifics are still up in the air, they promised more details as work continues behind the scenes.

All this momentum comes after an absolutely huge launch for Battlefield 6. The shooter sold over 7 million copies in just three days, smashing the record for the biggest launch in series history. It also hit EA’s top-ever Steam player count, with an enormous peak of 747,440 concurrent players, even outpacing Apex Legends. Battlefield’s latest patches are trying to keep that fire alive. Judging by the sweeping changes on deck, the devs are listening and responding, with serious action.
