Trouble in the Ark Universe: AI Trailers and PR Missteps
The Ark franchise can’t seem to dodge bad headlines lately. Over the summer, Snail Games, the publisher behind Ark: Survival Evolved, faced intense criticism after its Aquatica expansion dropped a trailer pieced together with AI. The video quickly became infamous for a series of bizarre blunders: one character somehow wielded a spear gun with three hands, fish flickered strangely in and out, an octopus sprouted the wrong number of limbs, and a person wore flippers instead of feet.
After the backlash, Snail Games pulled the trailer from YouTube and put the blame squarely on its marketing team, hoping to cool the controversy. But for fans following Ark’s journey, the weirdness surrounding the Aquatica reveal felt all too familiar.
For those counting, it’s been half a decade since Studio Wildcard unveiled Ark 2. Diesel, dinosaurs, and survival mayhem were supposed to carry the franchise into the next generation. Now, all eyes are on 2028 and whether Ark 2 will finally deliver on its wild ambitions.
