Nintendo has shown the first gameplay for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on Nintendo Switch 2 and confirmed a November 5, 2026 launch.

The game will be exclusive to Switch 2. Nintendo’s official title does not use the word remake, but the company describes this version of its Nintendo 64 classic as having been built from the ground up for the newer system. The release date, platform and physical availability also appear on the official Nintendo Store page.

Series producer Eiji Aonuma presented the first gameplay during the Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct. Nintendo has now explained several changes to the game’s presentation, controls and player guidance, although important purchase and technical details remain unannounced.

What has changed in Ocarina of Time for Switch 2?

Nintendo’s confirmed feature list goes beyond sharpening the original Nintendo 64 visuals. The company has announced the following upgrades:

  • Completely overhauled visuals.
  • Fully voiced cutscenes and expanded character dialogue.
  • Symphonic orchestral music.
  • Faster loading times.
  • Revised movement controls, including new button commands.
  • Improved camera control using the Right Stick.

Those details come from Nintendo’s announcement accompanying the Direct. They confirm changes to how Ocarina of Time looks, sounds and controls, but Nintendo has not explained whether the rebuilt game will alter its areas, dungeons, quests or story events.

Threads of Time will show the next objective

One practical addition is Threads of Time, a menu feature that shows story progress and identifies the player’s next objective. Nintendo says a large tapestry will gradually fill in as the journey continues.

The feature could be useful for players returning after a long break or for newcomers encountering the game’s quest structure for the first time. Nintendo has not said whether Threads of Time can be disabled or how much guidance it will provide beyond identifying the next objective.

Players can hum ocarina tunes into the Switch 2

Nintendo is also adding an optional microphone-based way to perform learned ocarina melodies. Players within range of the Switch 2’s built-in microphone can play or hum a melody Link has learned, prompting him to perform it in the game. Nintendo has not detailed which melodies support microphone input or whether particular external instruments will work with the feature. Its announcement describes microphone input as optional.

Physical edition details and what remains unknown

The first print run of the physical edition will come in special packaging with textured-foil cover art while supplies last. That is the only special physical-packaging detail included in Nintendo’s announcement.

In the official materials reviewed, Nintendo does not list a US price or identify the studio that developed the project. Those materials also do not specify the resolution, frame-rate target, storage requirement or broad pre-order timing.

The confirmed details are therefore straightforward: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is coming exclusively to Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5, 2026, with rebuilt visuals, voiced cutscenes, expanded dialogue, revised controls and new progression help. Nintendo’s official Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct page includes the presentation in which the company showed the gameplay and announced the date.
