Build A Rocket Boy administration: Is the MindsEye studio closed?

September 26, 2026 Off

Companies House records show that Build A Rocket Boy Ltd entered administration on 23 September 2026.

By Ibraheem Adeola

Build A Rocket Boy Ltd, the company behind MindsEye, is officially listed as “In Administration” on Companies House. The UK company register records that the administration began on 23 September 2026, but the entry does not say that the company has been dissolved or placed into liquidation, or that the studio has permanently closed.

That distinction matters for players trying to establish what has happened to MindsEye. The filing is a significant confirmed development, but it does not by itself answer whether the game will receive further patches, whether its online services will continue, or what will happen to Build A Rocket Boy’s other projects and assets.

What Companies House confirms

The official Companies House entry for Build A Rocket Boy Ltd, company number SC537252, now gives its status as “In Administration”. The company was incorporated on 6 June 2016.

Its insolvency record lists one case and gives 23 September 2026 as the administration start date. It names Allister Manson of Opus Restructuring LLP and Mark Harper as the practitioners on the case.

The Companies House filing history also shows an AM01(Scot) filing, described as an appointment of an administrator, submitted on 25 September 2026. At the time the register was checked, the underlying document was still being processed and was marked as due to become available within 10 days. Further detail may emerge once the document can be inspected publicly.

Administration is not confirmation that the studio has closed

The current public filing confirms an administration process, not a final outcome for the company. It does not state that Build A Rocket Boy has been liquidated, dissolved or sold. It also does not set out a plan for the company’s staff, projects, intellectual property or creditors.

For that reason, it would be premature to describe the record alone as confirmation of a permanent studio shutdown. The same applies to claims that MindsEye has been cancelled, abandoned or will lose support. None of those outcomes is stated in the Companies House entry currently available.

Reports of further layoffs and a possible closure had circulated before the administration record appeared. On 16 September, Game Developer reported staff departure posts and said Build A Rocket Boy had not publicly acknowledged the reported layoffs or closure. Those reports provide context for the situation, but they are not a substitute for the company’s legal status on the official register.

What this means for MindsEye right now

There is no confirmed public answer yet on future patches, customer support, online services or storefront availability for MindsEye. The game’s Steam page remained reachable when checked and identifies Build A Rocket Boy, but a live store listing is not a promise of continuing support or service availability.

Build A Rocket Boy’s own website also remained online and continued to present MindsEye among the company’s properties when checked. No administration statement appeared in the page result reviewed for this report.

The publishing position is also relevant. In March 2026, Game Developer reported that IOI Partners had ended its MindsEye collaboration on 16 March and that Build A Rocket Boy would assume sole publishing responsibility. The administration filing does not state who now controls day-to-day publishing, operations or support decisions.

The questions still unanswered

  • Will Build A Rocket Boy or the named practitioners publish a statement on the administration and the company’s intended outcome?
  • Will the company continue trading, be restructured, be sold, or move towards a different outcome?
  • Who is responsible for MindsEye patches, online services, refunds and customer support while the process continues?
  • Will the game remain available across Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation and Xbox, and for how long?
  • What happens to Build A Rocket Boy’s other assets and projects, including Build.ARCADIA and EVERYWHERE?
  • What additional information will the AM01(Scot) appointment document contain when it becomes publicly available?

For now, the clearest answer is a narrow one: Build A Rocket Boy is in administration according to Companies House. That is an official and important change, but it is not, on its own, proof that the company has permanently shut down or that MindsEye support has ended.
