Ace Combat 8 Reaches 1 Million Units at the Fastest Pace in Series History

October 10, 2026 Off

That is a speed-to-milestone record, not confirmation that it has overtaken Ace Combat 7’s lifetime total.

Bandai Namco says ACE COMBAT 8: WINGS OF THEVE has reached 1 million units worldwide at the fastest pace in the franchise. The wording is important: the publisher has confirmed a record for how quickly the game reached that milestone, not that Ace Combat 8 is already the best-selling entry in the series.

Bandai Namco announced the milestone on October 9, 2026. Its statement does not disclose exactly when the threshold was crossed, but it says early access began on September 29 and the standard worldwide launch followed on October 2. Those dates and the 1-million-unit total come from Bandai Namco’s official announcement.

What Bandai Namco confirmed about Ace Combat 8 sales

The record is specifically about reaching 1 million units more quickly than previous Ace Combat games. Independent reports from Gematsu and Video Games Chronicle also reported the milestone using Bandai Namco’s announcement as the basis for the comparison.

Bandai Namco did not provide comparable time-to-1-million figures for the earlier games. The announcement also contains no regional or platform breakdown and does not explain whether the total represents consumer sell-through, shipments or another reporting method.

For that reason, “1 million units worldwide” is the most precise description available.

Why the milestone does not put Ace Combat 8 ahead of Ace Combat 7

Launch pace and lifetime sales are different measurements. Bandai Namco reported in January 2026 that ACE COMBAT 7: SKIES UNKNOWN had surpassed 7 million units worldwide. Ace Combat 8’s new 1-million-unit figure therefore does not show that it has overtaken Ace Combat 7’s accumulated total.

The new announcement also does not establish where Ace Combat 8 will eventually rank by lifetime sales. Without equivalent launch-period totals for earlier entries, there is no official like-for-like timetable for comparing their longer-term performance.

How the result fits into the wider series

A separate Japanese publisher release says the Ace Combat series has shipped more than 22 million units worldwide in total. That provides context for the size of the franchise, but it should not be used to redefine the new game’s figure.

The Japanese release explicitly describes the series-wide total as shipments, while the English Ace Combat 8 announcement uses the broader term “units.” Because Bandai Namco has not supplied a methodology for the new total, the two terms should not be treated as interchangeable.

The supported conclusion is narrower than a lifetime sales claim: Ace Combat 8 reached 1 million units faster than any earlier game in the franchise, according to Bandai Namco. Whether that start eventually produces a new series sales leader remains unanswered.
