How to Begin the Treasure of Sharksmouth Mountain Puzzle
This particular puzzle is located in the Lair of the Dragon King, found on Rivain Coast. You’ll gain access to this area as you progress through Taash’s personal questline.
Upon reaching the area, you’ll notice an inscription on a tower door and a shield inside the fortress that presents you with a riddle:
The Riddle:
“Four knights rode to the battle.
One fired unto the rightward flank, her arrows a steel rain.
One lingered, their shield behind to guard all’s back.
One went boldly to the fore, her sword thrust forward unto the foe.
One crept upon the leftward flank, his hammer a harvest reaped.”
Interpreting the Riddle:
The riddle describes four knights, each wielding a specific weapon and performing a particular action. It also hints at which direction each knight was facing during battle. Your goal is to position the statues of these four knights so that they face the proper cardinal direction based on the riddle’s description.
Clue Locations for the Four Knights
Before you can solve the puzzle, you’ll need to gather additional clues by finding four knight statues scattered around the fortress. Here’s where each statue is located and what you’ll learn about each knight:
- Ser Rian the Red (Arrow – Faces East)
- This clue can be found in the far corner of the fortress, where a blight boil is blocking the entrance to a small nook. Destroy the blight and examine the area to learn that Ser Rian is the knight who looses arrows to the rightward flank.
- Ser Ifean Beloved of the Moon (Shield – Faces South)
- In the main section of the fortress, you’ll find a spectral rift that can be crossed using a perk from Lucanis/Spite. Once across, you’ll learn that Ser Ifean used their shield to guard the back of the group.
- Ser Dheon the Silent (Sword – Faces North)
- Near the fortress, you’ll come across a ruined hut covered in blight growths. After destroying the blight, search the area to find a clue revealing that Ser Dheon is the knight who thrusts their sword forward.
- Ser Cruach the Wolf (Hammer – Faces West)
- Head toward the lava flows by taking the stone pathway. Use Harding’s perk to raise the stone slabs and locate the note on the statue that tells you that Ser Cruach wielded the hammer on the leftward flank.
Solving the Treasure of Sharksmouth Mountain Puzzle
Now that you have all the clues about the knights, it’s time to solve the puzzle.
- In the inner section of the fortress, you’ll see four knight statues. Each statue needs to be rotated to face the correct cardinal direction based on the clues you’ve gathered. The directions correspond to the actions described in the riddle.
- Ser Rian (Arrow): Should face East.
- Ser Ifean (Shield): Should face South.
- Ser Dheon (Sword): Should face North.
- Ser Cruach (Hammer): Should face West.
- Once the statues are aligned correctly, the tower door will open, granting you access to the treasure inside.
