November 24, 2024 Off By Ibraheem Adeola

The Exclusion Zone in Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl is not just a battlefield; it’s a treasure trove for those brave enough to explore its darkest corners. Among its many mysteries lies the Prypiat Journalist Stash, a reward-filled chest awaiting intrepid adventurers near the end of the campaign. But getting to this hidden stash isn’t easy—it’s a journey through danger, puzzles, and some of the Zone’s most haunting locales.

This guide takes you step-by-step through locating and accessing the Prypiat Journalist Stash, detailing every peril and reward along the way.

Before you can unlock the secrets of the Prypiat stash, you must first complete these essential steps:

  1. Finish the “Seek and You Shall Find” Side Quest
    • Locate the 12 previous Journalist Stashes scattered across the Exclusion Zone. Each stash contains valuable gear, and the final one triggers a voice message revealing the thirteenth stash in Prypiat.
Tip: Refer to our comprehensive guide on finding all 12 Journalist Stashes to ensure nothing is missed.
  2. Progress Through the Main Campaign
    • Accessing Prypiat requires completing the main quest, The Boundary. This mission involves obtaining the M-Scanner device from the Red Forest and Yaniv regions. Both narrative paths—giving the M-Scanner to Yaniv Base’s commander or using it in an electrified tunnel—will grant you entry to Prypiat.

Finding the Prypiat Journalist Stash

The journey to Prypiat begins at the Garbage/Slag Heap. However, a high concrete wall blocks direct access. After completing The Boundary mission, this blockade is lifted, allowing you to proceed north into Prypiat’s eerie, abandoned streets.

The Apartment Complex

The stash is located in a seemingly ordinary apartment building. Here’s how to find it:

  1. Follow the Southern Wall:
    • Hug the southern edge of the Prypiat map until you find an open path leading to a courtyard.
  2. Enter the Building:
    • Inside, you’ll encounter swarms of Mutant Dogs and Psydogs.
    • Psydog Strategy: These creatures can spawn clones, making combat tricky. Focus on the real Psydog—use high-damage weapons like shotguns or explosives to prevent it from multiplying.
  3. Ascend to the Top Floor:
    • The stash is secured behind a keypad-locked door near the top floor.
    • Enter Code: 2-0-2-1 to unlock the door.

Tips for Tackling Prypiat

  1. Prepare for Combat:
The Mutant Dogs and Psydogs are formidable foes. Equip high-damage weapons, and carry plenty of ammunition and medkits.
  2. Travel Light:
The rewards include bulky items. Leave non-essential gear behind to ensure you have enough carry weight for the stash loot.
  3. Save Before Entering:
Save your progress before entering the apartment complex. The Psydogs can be unpredictable, and reloading may save you frustration if you’re overwhelmed.

Prypiat Journalist Stash Rewards

Once inside, the stash rewards are worth every moment of effort. The loot includes powerful weapons, upgraded armour, and a poignant narrative twist.

Weapons

  • Margach D-12MT: A custom shotgun perfect for close-quarters combat.
  • Hunter: A modified sniper rifle for precision targeting at long range.

Armour

  • PSZ-21W Shturm: A top-tier armoured suit offering excellent protection and a +12 kg carry weight bonus—perfect for extended expeditions.

Narrative Bonus

  • The Journalist’s PDA: A cryptic message from Veniamin, the Journalist, reveals the tragic end of this mysterious figure. Longtime fans of the Stalker series may notice subtle callbacks to previous games in this emotional note.

Note: While looting the stash, you’ll encounter a message scrawled on the wall. Written in Ukrainian, the meaning remains enigmatic. Though translation attempts haven’t provided clarity, the haunting message adds a layer of intrigue to the story.
