Call of Duty Double XP Event Extended After PSN Outage—And Players Are Thrilled

Call of Duty Double XP Event Extended After PSN Outage—And Players Are Thrilled

February 11, 2025 Off By Ibraheem Adeola

If you were grinding all weekend only to have PSN betray you, there’s good news—Activision has extended the Double XP event for an extra 48 hours!

Originally set to end on February 10, the event will now run until February 12 at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET, meaning you have two more days to rack up those levels, max out your weapons, and farm Gobblegum at double the usual speed.

For those who had their weekend ambitions ruined by the PlayStation Network outage, this is a solid apology gift—even if the outage itself is still surrounded by vague explanations and frustrated fans.

“Didn’t Get to Play? We Got You.” – Activision

In a social media post, Activision casually acknowledged the frustration of Call of Duty players everywhere, saying:

“Didn’t get to play as much as you wanted over the weekend? We got you.”

For once, those words actually meant something, because instead of keeping the event as originally scheduled, they extended it across ALL platforms—not just PlayStation. That means PC, Xbox, and PlayStation players alike get two extra days to farm that sweet, sweet Double XP. Even if PSN was the only network affected, it’s nice to see Activision not leaving anyone behind.

What’s Included in the Double XP Event?

If you’re just hearing about this now, here’s what you can still take advantage of until February 12:

  • Double Player XP – Rank up faster and hit those prestige milestones sooner.
  • Double Weapon XP – Max out your loadouts and unlock attachments in record time.
  • Double Gobblegum Earn Rate – If you’re deep into Zombies, this is your chance to stockpile those perks.

One thing to note, though—the Black Ops 6 free trial (Feb 6-10) was NOT extended, so if you were hoping for an extra chance to try before you buy, that window has officially closed.

PSN Outage: A Weekend Ruined for PlayStation Gamers

Now, why was this event extended in the first place? Because PSN went down hard over the weekend, leaving millions of players unable to log in for nearly 24 hours.

Sony later released a vague statement, calling it an “operational issue.” That’s it. No details. No real explanation. Just two words that did absolutely nothing to calm frustrated gamers.

And it wasn’t just Call of Duty players affected. Monster Hunter Wilds, another major online game, also had its beta extended due to the downtime.

How Bad Was the PSN Outage?

For reference, this was the second-longest PlayStation Network downtime in history, only beaten by the infamous 2011 PSN hack, which lasted a painful 23 days and exposed the personal data of 77 million users. While this recent outage wasn’t nearly as catastrophic, it still left many players annoyed and demanding answers.

Sony’s response?

“We apologize for the inconvenience and thank the community for their patience.”

Oh, and they’re giving PlayStation Plus members five extra days of service—which is nice but doesn’t exactly erase the frustration of a ruined weekend.

What’s Next? More XP, More Grinding, More Chaos

With two extra days of Double XP, expect the lobbies to be packed, the tryhards to be sweating, and the camper count to skyrocket.

If you missed out on levelling up your favourite load-outs or prestiging faster than your friends, now’s your chance to grind even harder before the event officially ends on February 12.

So, grab your controller, chug an energy drink, and dive back in—because double XP doesn’t come around often, and you definitely don’t want to waste it.
