Preparing for the Fuban Boss Fight: Gear and Strategies
Before heading into battle, make sure you’re well-prepared:
- Gear Up: Equip the Cloud-Patterned Stone Staff from the optional Sigandang boss. This weapon has great reach and deals heavy damage against Fuban’s tough exoskeleton.
- Healing Items: Bring plenty of healing items, such as Celestial Medicine, to recover from his massive attacks.
- Mind Cores: Allocate Mind Cores toward damage resistance, particularly against piercing and earth-based attacks.
Locating Fuban in the Kingdom of Sahali
After unlocking the Kingdom of Sahali by completing the Drunken Boar’s quest (details of which can be found in our previous guide), head to the secret area where Fuban lurks. This arena is characterized by vast sandy dunes, making it difficult to navigate due to its openness.
Phase 1: Claw Attack Patterns
Fuban will start by burrowing into the sand and emerge with devastating leaps. Watch for these patterns:
- Leaping Smashes: Dodge as soon as you see him descend to avoid getting crushed.
- Claw Swipes: Fuban will slash side to side with his claws. If he attacks with one claw, expect the other to follow soon after.
- Shockwaves: When Fuban rears back, prepare to dodge as he’ll create a shockwave that covers a large area.
To deal damage, focus on hitting his front claws. Use Thrust Stance to land long-range heavy attacks and maintain a safe distance. If you see him pivot, back away quickly, as he might launch a charging attack with his head.
Phase 2: Underground Horn Attacks
When you’ve dealt enough damage, Fuban will burrow underground and start attacking with his horn from beneath the sand. Watch the ground for sand movement to anticipate his position. Use Pillar Stance to jump away and avoid damage as his horn erupts from the ground.
- Horn Thrusts: He’ll attack from below with his horn twice before leaping back out of the sand.
- Sand Explosions: Keep moving to avoid getting caught in the explosions that follow his horn attacks.
When the Yellow Wind Sage bangs his drums, Fuban will become stunned and you’ll get a chance to climb onto the statue on his back. Use this opportunity to retrieve the Wind Tamer Vessel.
Phase 3: Partnering with the Yellow Wind Sage
After retrieving the Wind Tamer, the Yellow Wind Sage will join the fight. In this phase, you’ll need to work in tandem:
- Yellow Wind Sage Attacks: The Sage’s wind-based attacks will create openings. Use these moments to land your heaviest attacks on Fuban’s exposed claws.
- Stunning Fuban: When Fuban is knocked down, aim for his underbelly and use Transformation Spells for maximum damage.
Mastering Fuban’s Final Moves
Once Fuban is low on health, he’ll bring out new moves, including:
- Charge Attacks: Dodge to the side to avoid his ramming attacks, which have extended reach and deal significant damage.
- Sand Tornado: A new move that will trap you in a vortex if you get too close. Back away and wait for it to dissipate.
Use the Wind Tamer to nullify his sandstorm attacks, which can otherwise be overwhelming. Focus on his exposed weak spots, and keep the Yellow Wind Sage close to distract Fuban.
Final Stretch: Dealing the Finishing Blow
In the last stretch, Fuban’s attacks will become more frantic. Be patient, and keep dodging until the Yellow Wind Sage lands the final blow. For defeating Fuban, you’ll be rewarded with the Sky-Piercing Horn weapon material and the Wind Tamer Vessel, which will be essential for future battles.
