Dark Souls 2 and 3 server status: no return time announced
November 1, 2026It announced no restoration time or player-side workaround.
Status in the cited October 30, 2026 notice: FromSoftware Player Support said the game servers for Dark Souls II and Dark Souls III were temporarily unavailable on all platforms because of a server issue. The notice did not provide a restoration date or time.
That announcement identifies a service interruption but does not tell players to change network settings, reinstall either game or follow another workaround. Because server status can change quickly, players should check FromSoftware Player Support’s official post and account for any notice published after the cited update.
What FromSoftware confirmed about the outage
FromSoftware Player Support wrote: “Due to a server issue, the game servers for the following titles will be temporarily unavailable on all platforms.” The post then names Dark Souls II and Dark Souls III.
The same official notice says: “We will provide updates once we have information regarding the server restoration time.” As written, the announcement provides no return window that players can use to plan co-op or competitive sessions.
The confirmed explanation goes no further than a “server issue.” The notice does not identify a hack, exploit, security vulnerability or permanent service closure. Game*Spark’s report on the announcement also says the specific nature and cause of the problem were not disclosed.
Which Dark Souls 2 and 3 features may be unavailable?
The outage notice concerns the games’ servers. FromSoftware’s game support documentation identifies connected functions across these titles that include co-op, PvP, ghosts, messages and bloodstains. It is therefore reasonable to expect server-dependent multiplayer and asynchronous features to be unavailable while the relevant servers are offline.
That is an inference from the documented distinction between online and offline functions, not a current promise covering every mode. FromSoftware’s outage notice does not expressly confirm that offline campaigns or local save data are unaffected. A problem with an offline mode should not automatically be attributed to this server notice without further information.
Why “all platforms” excludes retired Dark Souls 2 services
FromSoftware’s standing FAQ says that Dark Souls II online services on PS3 and Xbox 360 were permanently terminated on March 31, 2024. Those legacy services were therefore already unavailable before the temporary interruption announced in October 2026.
The phrase “all platforms” should be read as the scope of the current announcement, not as evidence that FromSoftware newly closed, restored or otherwise changed the retired PS3 and Xbox 360 services. The outage notice does not provide a platform-by-platform list of the versions that remain supported and are affected.
What should players do while waiting for an update?
- Check the official support account: a newer FromSoftware post may supersede the October 30 notice summarized here.
- For co-op, invasions and messages: if these functions are failing during the announced interruption, wait for a restoration update before repeatedly changing game or router settings.
- For a planned multiplayer session: do not rely on an unofficial return time. The cited notice includes no restoration estimate.
- For claims about the cause: treat them cautiously. FromSoftware confirmed only a server issue and did not disclose its technical cause.
- For comparisons with the 2022 PC outage: do not use the length or cause of that incident to predict this one. PC Gamer reports that the October 2026 notice uses broader all-platform wording, but FromSoftware has not established a technical connection between the incidents.
The next meaningful confirmation will be an official restoration estimate or a notice that service has resumed. Until FromSoftware publishes one, the October 30 announcement establishes only temporary server unavailability with no stated timetable.
