OpenCAGE 1.0 adds Alien: Isolation custom levels and Mod Manager
November 1, 2026OpenCAGE 1.0 adds custom-level creation, Live Link testing and a Mod Manager to the unofficial Alien: Isolation toolkit.
OpenCAGE 1.0 is now available, giving Alien: Isolation modders a documented workflow for building entire custom levels, testing changes in the running game and packaging their work for players. Its player-facing Mod Manager can install multiple compatible mods, identify direct conflicts and remove applied changes.
OpenCAGE creator Matt Filer announced the milestone on 29 October 2026, describing version 1.0 as the first release he was happy to ship without a beta version number. He also said the release unlocks the ability to build complete custom levels from scratch. OpenCAGE is free, but it requires a purchased and installed copy of Alien: Isolation. Those details are confirmed by the OpenCAGE 1.0 release announcement and the tool’s official Steam listing.
What OpenCAGE 1.0 changes for creators
The significance of version 1.0 is not limited to another collection of file-editing options. OpenCAGE now documents an end-to-end workflow in which creators can construct level data, work in a 3D viewport, edit node-based scripts, import assets, test changes through Live Link and package the result as an installable mod.
The official OpenCAGE documentation covers the import of models, materials, textures and animations. The 1.0 announcement also highlights animation and sound import and export, real-time editing and debugging, and improvements to the editor interface and viewport. Together, those capabilities support more ambitious projects than adjustments to existing game files, although the scope and quality of any completed mod will still depend on its creator.
- Custom levels: Creators can build levels from scratch and rebuild the associated level data.
- Scripting: Gameplay logic can be written or edited through a node-based workflow.
- Asset imports: The documentation covers models, materials, textures and animations, while the 1.0 announcement also identifies animation and sound import-export features.
- In-game testing: Live Link allows supported edits to appear in the running game, helping creators test and debug their work.
- Distribution: Completed changes can be packaged as mods that other players can install.
That gives the community a documented route from an original level concept to a playable, shareable mod. It does not make OpenCAGE an official SDK. The Steam listing says the community project is not affiliated with or endorsed by Creative Assembly, SEGA or Feral Interactive. The listing also describes support for custom missions, modes, characters, weapons and maps.
What the OpenCAGE Mod Manager does for players
Players do not need to use the editor to benefit from the release. OpenCAGE’s Mod Manager can import packaged community mods, including .omp files, and apply multiple mods. It can combine compatible changes and identify cases in which selected mods directly conflict instead of treating every combination as safe.
The manager also tracks the game state it changes. According to the official Mod Manager documentation, removing applied mods can return the game to its previous state. That gives players a managed alternative to manually replacing files and later trying to reverse those changes.
The Mod Manager is Windows-focused and does not support the mobile, Mac or Linux versions of Alien: Isolation. Players should also read each mod’s requirements and compatibility notes before applying it, especially when combining several projects.
How to get started with OpenCAGE
OpenCAGE is available free through Steam, but it is a companion tool rather than a standalone game. A purchased and installed copy of Alien: Isolation is required.
- For players: Install OpenCAGE, import a supported community mod package through the Mod Manager and review any conflict warnings before applying the selection.
- For creators: Begin with the official documentation, which explains the editor, level-building workflows, scripting, asset imports, Live Link testing and mod packaging.
- For everyone: Remember that OpenCAGE is an unofficial community project rather than mod support supplied by the game’s developers or publishers.
OpenCAGE 1.0 does not guarantee that finished custom campaigns will appear immediately. It does, however, give Alien: Isolation creators a more complete workflow for building, testing, packaging and distributing original levels and other mods.
