Square Enix Drops Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy: 3v3 Chaos Kicks Off in Modern Tokyo on Mobile
October 15, 2025Square Enix just revealed the latest chapter in its Final Fantasy spin-off saga, and this time it’s landing right in the heart of modern-day Tokyo. Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy is coming to mobile next year, bringing 3 vs 3 battles, a parade of beloved characters, and an unmistakable dose of chaos.
The closed beta rolls out soon, but before you get hyped, know it’s exclusive to the US and Canada for now. Signups are open, but you’ll need an Android device if you’re hoping to jump in during the November test.
Modern Tokyo Meets Classic Final Fantasy
Let’s cut to it. Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy plants the franchise’s trademark chaos right into today’s Tokyo, swapping medieval castles and steampunk airships for skyscrapers and city streets. The trailer teases: “A peaceful everyday life, visited by chaos.” Suddenly, heroes known as “Ghosts” step up to confront the catastrophe, bringing together stars from across the Final Fantasy universe for something unlike any past entry.
Gameplay details are thin but intriguing. You’ll face off in 3 on 3 squad battles, racing to defeat monsters and bosses before your rival team gets there first. It’s an approach familiar to Dissidia, but the city setting adds a new, ground-level intensity.
The game also features the core Bravery system, letting each character tap into their full potential once they’ve built enough momentum. Expect the battles to be as tactical as they are flashy.
Customisation won’t be an afterthought, either. You’ll dress up your warriors with a range of outfits. Even better, Square Enix is bringing in popular artists to create fresh ability illustrations, a rare move that’ll help every attack and special move stand out.
Beta Details, Big Names, and What’s Next

The closed beta test is open for signups until October 28th. The action runs from November 7 to 14 on Android. For now, only players in the US and Canada can get in. Square isn’t saying when (or if) the test opens wider, but the anticipation is already snowballing, given Dissidia’s loyal fanbase.
Creative producer and series veteran, Tetsuya Nomura, took to social media to underline just how much this project means to his team. In his message, Nomura calls Duellum “the sixth instalment in the series” and describes it as an “aspirational title packed with many new undertakings and ways for the staff to challenge themselves.” Fans already familiar with the series will latch onto the legacy, but Nomura’s tease hints there’s a bold new direction here, too.
Square Enix isn’t stopping with Final Fantasy on mobile. The publisher is cranking up its mobile game lineup, with nods to other franchises like Dragon Quest. After shutting down Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omnia and a slew of mobile projects early last year, the company has real intent to recapture the market. Dragon Quest Smash/Grow, a roguelite RPG announced not long ago, confirms there’s a wider mobile push underway.
For now, all eyes are on Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy, a game that fuses classic nostalgia and new threats in an unexpected setting. The trailer even ends with a sizzle of more characters to come, dangling plenty for diehard fans and mobile gamers to speculate over.
If you want in on the early action, head to the official Dissidia Duellum website and sign up. And if you miss out on the beta, don’t sweat it, the full launch lands on iOS and Android next year, promising plenty more chaos to come.
