Dragon’s Dogma 2 pulls Deluxe Edition and controversial microtransactions ahead of Dark Arisen expansion
June 15, 2026Capcom will discontinue the Dragon’s Dogma 2 Deluxe Edition and remove several contentious time-saving microtransactions on 24 June 2026, as it prepares for the launch of the Dark Arisen expansion and a major title update.
Capcom has confirmed that the Dragon’s Dogma 2 Deluxe Edition, along with a selection of paid DLC items criticised for enabling short-cuts through the game’s progression, will be withdrawn from sale across all platforms at 5pm PT (1am BST on 25 June 2026). This move, communicated via the official Dragon’s Dogma social channels on 11 June 2026, is part of preparations for the release of Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen. Players who have already purchased these items will retain access and usability, but no further sales will be possible beyond the removal deadline.
The following content will be discontinued and delisted for purchase from all storefronts as of 25 June 2026:
- Dragon’s Dogma 2 Deluxe Edition
- A Boon for Adventurers – New Journey Pack
- Harpysnare Smoke Beacons – Harpy Lure Item
- Heartfelt Pendant – A Thoughtful Gift
- Ambivalent Rift Incense – Change Pawn Inclinations
- Makeshift Gaol Key – Escape from Gaol
- Art of Metamorphosis – Character Editor
- Portcrystal – Warp Location Marker
- Wakestone – Restore the Dead to Life
- 500 Rift Crystals – Points to Spend Beyond the Rift
- 1500 Rift Crystals – Points to Spend Beyond the Rift
- 2500 Rift Crystals – Points to Spend Beyond the Rift
Capcom’s statement explained, “Due to the development of additional content and various adjustments for the upcoming title update, several in-game items – many of which let you fast-track the game’s progression systems – will be retired.” Capcom also assured, “If you already have it, it can still be used.”
Notably, several key pieces of DLC will remain available for purchase after 25 June. According to Capcom, these are:
- Dragon’s Dogma 2 (base digital edition)
- Explorer’s Camping Kit
- Dragon’s Dogma Music and Sound Collection
Additionally, Capcom has announced that the digital base edition of Dragon’s Dogma 2 will receive a “permanent discount” after the removal of the Deluxe Edition and microtransactions, providing new players with a lower entry price. Full pricing has not yet been confirmed.
Dark Arisen expansion, Switch 2 surprise, and performance roadmap
This news was delivered alongside the reveal that Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen, a substantial new content expansion, is scheduled for release on 9 October 2026. The new expansion, bundled as the “Dark Arisen” version, will also bring Dragon’s Dogma 2 to Nintendo Switch 2, a platform announcement made during the June 2026 Nintendo Direct. This marks the first time players will be able to experience the series on a Nintendo console.
Capcom has been under sustained community pressure to address several core criticisms since the game’s original March 2025 launch, particularly regarding performance issues and the perceived pay-to-win microtransaction model. There has been a year-long absence of major title updates or patches, with player concerns focusing on optimisation, enemy scaling deficiencies in New Game Plus, and the commercialisation of essential in-game mechanics. The publisher has now pledged a two-part development roadmap ahead of Dark Arisen’s launch, aimed at resolving outstanding technical and balance complaints.
In its communication to the player base, Capcom stated:
“Thank you for your support! We hope you bring the same passion and love to Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen, as you did to Dragon’s Dogma 2.”
All changes take effect worldwide, across all platforms, including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam).
