Dragon’s Dogma 2 on Switch 2 Surpasses Expectations with Minimum 30fps, Confirms Capcom Producer
July 15, 2026Dragon’s Dogma 2 is achieving a stable minimum 30 frames per second on Nintendo Switch 2 hardware, often exceeding this threshold, according to Capcom producer Naoto Oyama. The upcoming Switch 2 port has outperformed initial expectations thanks to extensive optimisation improvements, setting a new standard for major third-party releases on Nintendo’s next-gen hardware.
Capcom has officially confirmed that the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Dragon’s Dogma 2 is scheduled for release on 9 October 2026. This edition will include the anticipated ‘Dark Arisen’ DLC expansion, which will simultaneously launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. The publisher’s lead producer, Naoto Oyama, attributed the enhanced Switch 2 performance to ongoing optimisation efforts originally targeted at PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S platforms, with those improvements now directly benefiting the Switch 2 build.
Capcom’s Technical Optimisation Yields Standout Performance on Switch 2
In a detailed interview with Eurogamer, Oyama outlined the technical advances achieved for Dragon’s Dogma 2 across all major platforms and shared specific data points for the Switch 2. He stated:
“We’ve been working not only to improve performance to let the game run on Switch 2, but to improve the current base game versions on other platforms too. In particular, we’ve been trying to find as many small tweaks as we can make so we can build up and have a big performance improvement on consoles when it comes to Performance Mode itself. That’s something we’re aiming for with the late August title update that’s in the roadmap – for Performance Mode on consoles will be able to reach 60fps.
That means that, commensurately, all that effort we’ve put into the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of the game also pays off in the Switch 2 version, and we’re currently seeing a minimum 30fps performance on that hardware (and, in many scenes, it’s even higher). So it’s a little while to go until the game releases, but it’s exceeding our expectations on Switch 2, and I hope the players agree that we’ve done a great job again with bringing this game to that platform.”
This level of performance represents a significant technical achievement, as third-party AAA releases have historically struggled to maintain such frame rates on previous Nintendo consoles. According to Capcom, the techniques perfected on the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions, especially those targeting a locked 60fps in Performance Mode by the August update, have “commensurately” improved outcomes for Switch 2. Oyama’s direct acknowledgement that frame rates in “many scenes” are “even higher” than 30fps signals robust capabilities from Nintendo’s next-generation hardware when paired with Capcom’s flexible RE Engine.
RE Engine Proves Highly Compatible with Switch 2

Oyama further credited Capcom’s proprietary RE Engine as a factor in the game’s success on Switch 2. He affirmed in the interview:
“The RE engine, which we’re developing our games on now, is something that has actually been a really great fit for Nintendo Switch 2. We’ve had some really well-received Nintendo Switch 2 versions of major titles – such as Pragmata and Resident Evil Requiem this year – and, because this is an internal engine, we’ve been able to accumulate knowledge and know-how from other teams. And that means that the improvements that are made to the engine with each title, and the different features that are added with new games, get to stay with us – and we get to benefit from them on future titles. It’s a really positive cycle for us.”
Capcom has already shipped several high-profile RE Engine-based games for Switch 2, including Street Fighter 6, Pragmata, and Resident Evil Requiem. The internal collaboration and iterative knowledge-sharing have enabled persistent feature improvements, suggesting future Switch 2 titles could see even more strategic performance enhancements. Oyama explicitly noted the reciprocal value of engine development, emphasising a “positive cycle for us.”
- Dragon’s Dogma 2 Switch 2 Release Date: 9 October 2026
- DLC Expansion Included: Dark Arisen (also launches on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC the same day)
- Expected Frame Rate: Minimum 30fps on Switch 2 (often higher in many scenes)
- Next ‘Performance Mode’ Target: 60fps for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S via late August 2026 update
- Engine: Capcom’s proprietary RE Engine
With Switch 2’s hardware outperforming expectations and Capcom leveraging cross-platform optimisation, the release of Dragon’s Dogma 2 with Dark Arisen represents a key test case for future premium third-party experiences on Nintendo’s upcoming console. The positive performance benchmarks set by RE Engine titles suggest further high-fidelity adaptations are likely to follow.
