Elden Ring Nightreign’s DLC Is Confirmed—But What Could Be Included?

February 17, 2025 Off By Ibraheem Adeola

FromSoftware has already locked in post-launch DLC for Elden Ring Nightreign, and with that confirmation, speculation is in full swing. If there’s one thing FromSoftware fans love almost as much as dying repeatedly, it’s theorizing about what’s next. So, what could this upcoming DLC bring to the table? More Nightfarers? Additional Nightlords? A new, punishingly difficult zone that will make you question every life decision?

DLC Confirmation—What We Know So Far

The official Steam page for Elden Ring Nightreign originally stated that “Additional DLC – Additional playable characters and bosses” would be included post-launch. However, this wording was quickly removed, which only added more fuel to the fire of speculation. While details remain scarce, we do know that DLC will be available by Q4 2025. That gives FromSoftware plenty of time to create something just as brutal and awe-inspiring as the base game.

More Playable Nightfarers? It Seems Likely

During the recent network test, players got a hands-on look at four Nightfarers:

  • Wylder – The all-rounder. Probably the one who gets blamed for every failed boss attempt.
  • Guardian – The tank. Loves blocking, hates moving.
  • Recluse – The mage. Spends half the fight drinking FP flasks.
  • Duchess – The rogue. The reason the boss is attacking you and not them.

FromSoftware has confirmed that eight Nightfarers will be in the final game, which means four more are yet to be revealed. But if the DLC is also adding characters, could we see even more Nightfarers introduced?

Given Elden Ring’s class diversity, it wouldn’t be surprising if we got a berserker-type warrior, a holy knight, or even something entirely unexpected, like a beast-taming summoner. If Nightreign is pulling from Dark Souls and Bloodborne, expect some wild character concepts.

New Nightlords to Fight? Absolutely

So far, Nightreign’s structure suggests players will be hunting down eight powerful Nightlords, but why stop there?

DLC bosses are where FromSoftware truly shines, often bringing in some of the most creative and infuriatingly difficult fights in the series. (Looking at you, Malenia.) If FromSoftware follows its usual pattern, we can expect at least:

  • **A mind-meltingly fast boss that forces you to “git good” in ways you never expected.
  • A gigantic, terrifying creature that makes you question why you ever started gaming.
  • At least one boss that laughs in the face of your dodge rolls.
  • Some tragic figure with lore so deep it will spawn a million YouTube theories.

There’s also the potential return of past fan-favourite bosses, just as Nightreign already borrows from Dark Souls with the Centipede Demon and the Nameless King. Could we see Malenia, Maliketh, or even Messmer from Shadow of the Erdtree make an appearance?

A New Region or Biome? High Probability

If the DLC is as ambitious as past FromSoftware expansions, it’s likely to introduce a whole new area filled with new enemies, mechanics, and lore.

Maybe we’ll get a Nightreign version of the Painted World, a mystical, sealed-off nightmare realm where the most cursed creatures reside. Perhaps a decayed version of the Lands Between, corrupted by whatever force created the Nightlords.

And of course, expect new environmental hazards that will make your life miserable—like bottomless pits, poisonous swamps (again), and probably something that breathes fire and hates you.

New Weapons and Gear? An Absolute Must

With new Nightlords and locations, we’ll undoubtedly see new weapons, armour sets, and spells introduced.

  • Nightreign’s weapons system already encourages experimental builds—imagine what DLC weapons could add to the chaos.
  • Could we see weapon transformations similar to Bloodborne? A katana that switches into a whip? A hammer that turns into a cannon?
  • Unique armour sets that offer new mechanics beyond just looking cool—perhaps ones that change attack patterns, grant buffs, or alter movement styles.

Will It Be a One-and-Done DLC or an Expanding Experience?

FromSoftware has experimented with both standalone expansions and continuous content updates. While Elden Ring only received Shadow of the Erdtree, previous games like Dark Souls III had multiple DLC expansions.

Given that Nightreign is already teasing future content, it’s possible we could get more than just one expansion. If the game embraces a live-service model with seasonal challenges, we could see continuous updates even beyond the DLC.

With Elden Ring Nightreign launching on May 30, it won’t be long before we get a clearer picture of what’s coming next. Will the DLC bring new Nightfarers? More insane bosses? A fresh biome filled with horrors? Whatever it is, it’s safe to say it will be brutal, beautiful, and absolutely unforgiving.
