You can play Last Rites without finishing Wildlands
The new story mission centres on La Llorona and Los Penitentes, the cult that follows her. Players do not need to complete the main Wildlands campaign before starting it.

The bigger change is how much control squads now have
Last Rites is more than a performance update and a mission drop. Ubisoft has added Ghost Parameters and world or session settings that allow players to reconfigure important parts of the solo and co-op experience. According to Ubisoft’s PlayStation.Blog breakdown, players can set weapon limits and alter reload-ammo behaviour. They can also change the weather, time of day, enemy patrol rate and difficulty parameters. Co-op groups can decide whether friendly fire is enabled.
Those options allow solo players to move beyond a single fixed difficulty choice. Co-op squads can combine friendly fire, patrol-rate changes and other parameters to build a stricter tactical session or a more forgiving return to the game.
