Ghostwire: Tokyo – How to find The Hyakki Yako

Ghostwire: Tokyo – How to find The Hyakki Yako

June 4, 2022 Off By Ibraheem Adeola

When it comes to folklore, Japanese folklore is one of the most fascinating. They commonly involve amusing or weird characters and situations, as well as a variety of scary supernatural beings. Ghostwire: Tokyo does have some scary enemies designed around Japanese folklore that can sometimes be disconcerting. One of which is the sight of the Hyakki Yako: a parade of evil spirits. They’re sometimes seen marching through Shibuya’s streets. When first confronted, KK would encourage players to flee rather than face them head-on. However, completionists will have to look for the Hyakki Yako several times during their Ghostwire: Tokyo experience.

What Is The Hyakki Yako?

The Hyakki Yako, like many of the themes and demons in Ghostwire: Tokyo, is based on Japanese folklore. Thousands of Oni and Yokai are said to march through the streets of Japan gathering souls during the supernatural parade. They’ll be doing the same thing in Ghostwire: Tokyo, which is why gamers will have to stop them. During the first chapter of Ghostwire: Tokyo, players will encounter the Hyakki Yako, but will be advised to hide from them. However, from chapter 2 onwards, players will have the opportunity to make themselves visible to the parade and stop them from preying on souls.

The Hyakki Yako can spawn in a variety of places, although the Shibuya Scramble crossing is the most reliable. Players should keep this in mind as they fast travel to the map point for the scramble crossing. Then look for a moving patch of thick fog somewhere around them. For players who haven’t unlocked the fast travel ability for Akito and KK can place the map marker near the Morite Shrine to achieve the same purpose. Also, keep in mind that there is a high chance of you not seeing these freaks right away. Therefore, players should try running between the Shibuya scramble and Shibuya 429 for the sign of Visitors marching in an orderly procession.

Once players have come across the Hyakki Yako, they should make themselves visible to the parade. This action will have players teleported to an alternate dimension. Upon their arrival in this alternate realm, players will have to defeat as many waves of the Visitors as possible. For players who haven’t unlocked the “One Fell Swoop” trophy/achievement, this might be the best chance to have it in your locker. You can achieve this by simultaneously plucking out 5 Visitors’ cores. After dispatching the last visitor, players will be returned to their original location, where they will now find many clusters of Spirits. These clusters of spirits are more valuable than the normal clusters players would acquire while exploring. This is good news because, to unlock the game’s true ending, players must rescue a total of 15,000 Spirits from the Hyakki Yako during their gameplay.

Hyakki Yako appears every twenty minutes or thereabout. Therefore, if players are lucky, it shouldn’t take them long to complete the 15,000 spirit mark. As a result, players will most likely have to locate the procession ten times in total. While searching, players are likely to come across a lot of Containment Cubes. This will also allow them to meet their 10,000 requirements for Containment Cube Spirits while also allowing them to get a couple of easy Quick Purge kills.
