One such enemy is Lang-Li-Guhh-Baw, an optional Yaoguai Chief miniboss that players can battle in Chapter 2. This boss, a frog-like creature with electrifying attacks, offers a rewarding challenge for those willing to seek him out. In this guide, we’ll explore where to find Lang-Li-Guhh-Baw, how to tackle his powerful lightning-based attacks, and the rewards you can earn from defeating him.

Lang-Li-Guhh-Baw is located early in Chapter 2 of Black Myth: Wukong in the Yellow Wind Ridge area. As soon as you arrive at this region, you can head along the brackish pond water to its end, where you’ll find the Frog Guai in a large, watery pit. This pit is situated near the entrance to Sandgate Village, opposite the Village Entrance Shrine.

To reach Lang-Li-Guhh-Baw, follow the path that leads down a nearby ditch and under a bridge. This will bring you to a tunnel where a friendly Xu Dog Guai will request your assistance in defeating the Yaoguai Chief. From there, you’ll be led directly to the boss arena.

Lang-Li-Guhh-Baw’s Attack Patterns and How to Counter Them

Lang-Li-Guhh-Baw’s combat style is characterized by its heavy use of lightning attacks, which can be devastating if you’re unprepared. Understanding his attack patterns is crucial to surviving this battle.

  1. Electric-Infused Attacks: Unlike other frog-like enemies in the game, Lang-Li-Guhh-Baw’s attacks are infused with lightning, making them more dangerous. He can perform hand slaps and ground pounds in quick succession, each accompanied by electrical surges that increase the damage you take. To mitigate this, consider purchasing Shock-Quelling Powder from the Shrine’s shop, which can help you survive these electric onslaughts.
  2. Sweeping Tongue Lash: One of the boss’s signature moves is a sweeping tongue attack, now enhanced with lightning effects. This move can be dodged by using Cloud Step to dash to the side, allowing you to counterattack from a safe position. Be aware that sometimes the tongue lash is a straight shot, so always dodge to the sides instead of backwards.
  3. Mule Kick: When attacking from behind, be cautious of Lang-Li-Guhh-Baw’s quick mule kick, which can deal significant damage with little warning. If you see his arms cross, it’s a sign that he’s about to launch a frontal assault, so be ready to dodge.
  4. Electrified Tadpoles: One of the most challenging aspects of this fight is dealing with the frog’s electrified tadpole attack. When Lang-Li-Guhh-Baw’s throat swells with electric energy, he’ll shoot out dozens of electrified tadpoles. These can either spread in a large frontal arc or scatter around him, making them difficult to avoid. In this situation, the Pillar Stance can be incredibly useful, allowing you to gain height and stay out of reach of the tadpoles.
  5. Lightning Storm: If the frog lets out a giant croak and raises its body, it’s preparing to summon a lightning storm that rains down around the arena. Keep an eye out for the signs of an imminent strike and dodge accordingly to avoid taking damage.
  6. Immobilize to Interrupt: If you’re struggling to keep up with the many lightning attacks, the Immobilize spell can be a game-changer. Use it whenever you see Lang-Li-Guhh-Baw charging up an attack, as it can interrupt his moves and limit his ability to electrify the battlefield.

After a tough battle, defeating Lang-Li-Guhh-Baw will yield several valuable rewards. The most notable is the Evil Repelling Medicament Formula, which allows you to create various consumables at any Shrine. These consumables can enhance your defence, offence, and status resistance, making them invaluable for future encounters.

In addition to the formula, you’ll also receive the following rewards:

  • Tadpole
  • Silk x2
  • Yarn x2
  • 758 Experience
  • 776 Will

Once you’ve collected your rewards, don’t forget to return to the Xu Dog outside the pit. In gratitude, he’ll give you two Evil Repelling Medicaments and unlock the ability to craft a range of consumables using the materials you’ve harvested throughout the game.

Is the Battle Worth It?

While Lang-Li-Guhh-Baw is an optional boss in Black Myth: Wukong, the battle is well worth the effort. Not only does it provide a challenging and engaging combat experience, but the rewards you earn can significantly enhance your character’s capabilities. By understanding the frog’s attack patterns and using the right strategies, you can defeat this electrifying foe and claim the powerful items he guards. So gear up, stay sharp, and take on Lang-Li-Guhh-Baw to prove your mettle in the world of Black Myth: Wukong.
