Marvel’s Morbius Origin & Superpowers

Marvel’s Morbius Origin & Superpowers

January 3, 2022 Off By Ibraheem Adeola

Morbius has been a part of Marvel Comics since 1971, although he isn’t quite a household name among Marvel fans just yet. That notion, however, has been changed after its official live-action release in April 2022. The movie focuses mainly on Mobius’ origin story and its connection to Marvel’s Spider-Man and Venom’s universe. Unlike Spider-man: No Way Home which lasted for 2 hours and 28 minutes, Morbius’ story unfolds in a shorter period of time with a running time of 1 hour and 48 minutes. Moreover, the movie is also rated PG-13 for intense violent sequences, frightening images, and brief strong language. See the official synopsis and trailer below in case it’s your first time.

One of Marvel’s most compelling and conflicted characters comes to the big screen as Oscar winner Jared Leto transforms into the enigmatic antihero, Michael Morbius. Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder, and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. What at first appears to be a radical success soon reveals itself to be a remedy potentially worse than the disease.

Dr Micheal Morbius, also known as “Morbius: The Living Vampire,” is one of the most fascinating characters in the Marvel Universe. Fictionally, Michael Morbius is a biochemist and biologist from Greece with a rare blood disorder. Morbius travels to New York in the hopes of finding a solution for his lifelong disease, which was killing him at the time. In trying to cure himself, Morbius used an experimental treatment that included vampire bat DNA and electroshock therapy. However, the drastic experiment converted him into a pseudo-vampire with superhuman abilities and a voracious appetite for blood.

Morbius’ Features and Powers

Like a traditional vampire, Morbius needs to feed on the blood of the living to survive. In his vampiric state, Morbius’ face evolves to resemble that of a bat. Morbius’ top canine teeth grew into sharp fangs and his skin turned ghost-white, giving him a far more horrific appearance. His bones also become somewhat hollow, allowing him to fly by riding wind currents. His physical transformation also improves his senses and offers him more stamina, speed, strength, and durability. He also has many traditional vampire abilities, such as self-regeneration, limited hypnotic abilities, and the ability to glide on air. However, he does not have the same traditional vampire weaknesses towards the sun, garlic, and religious artefacts. He has the ability to heal damaged tissues, but he is not invincible. To put it another way, he has to drink enough blood to regenerate his body after it has been injured.

In addition, Morbius has the ability to transform others into pseudo-vampires like himself through an enzyme deposited in their bloodstream. The victims, on the other hand, lack Morbius’ regeneration abilities and die or even disintegrate when mortally wounded. His intelligence enables him to develop an antidote that cures his victims of their pseudo-vampirism, although the remedy does not work on him.

Marvel’s Morbius: A Villain Or A Hero?

Marvel’s Morbius was initially a villain after the failed radical experiment to cure his blood disorder. He was unable to control his thirst for blood thus making him go blood hunting. His thirst became so powerful that he began to have hallucinations and was unable to control the vampire within. This made him strike out at his best friend and colleague Nikos, killing and feeding on him right after the experiment turned him into a pseudo-vampire. It wasn’t in his human nature to murder an innocent soul, but the desire for blood always overtook him. Morbius, however, learns more about his new condition and how to control it as time goes on. He makes certain that he will no longer feed at random, but only on those who deserve it.

Therefore, in light of this Morbius is simply classified as an anti-hero. He is a villainous character that occasionally acts wrong but feels regret for doing them. Morbius despises himself and even strives to remedy his pseudo-vampiric state. He failed and had no choice but to learn to live with it. As a result, Morbius resolves to never harm an innocent soul again, consuming only the evil’s blood and slaying only those who deserve to be killed. He goes out of his way to help innocent people in innumerable circumstances since he’s a genuinely nice soul who can’t seem to break free from his addiction.

Morbius was a member of the midnight sons which includes the likes of Doctor Strange, Blade, and several others that fought against the mother of demons, Lillith. He also teamed up with Venom and Spider-Man to defeat Carnage. In the end, Morbius has some evil in him, but he constantly fights it with good.
