McDonald’s Japan Drops Limited-Edition Street Fighter Burgers for Ryu, Ken, and Chun-Li Fans
October 18, 2025Street Fighter 2 has landed at McDonald’s Japan, and so have some of the wildest burgers you’ll ever see. Starting October 22, the fast food giant is rolling out its Street Burgers campaign, serving up three new menu items themed after the iconic video game champions: Ryu, Ken, and Chun-Li. But if you want to snag a bite, you’ll need to move fast; these burgers are strictly limited-time only.
The crossover is already generating serious buzz online, not just for its menu, but for the way it’s being promoted. The official campaign features animated clips where each fighter dishes out their signature moves with burgers and garlic fireballs instead of hadoukens. This isn’t your run-of-the-mill branded meal deal. It’s Street Fighter with a side of mayhem.

New Burgers, Video Game Flair, and a Dash of Mayonnaise
McDonald’s isn’t playing it safe here. Each Street Fighter burger is tailored to the personality and flavour of its namesake. Let’s break them down:
- Ryu’s Burnt Garlic Mayonnaise Egg Teriyaki Burger is the star. The marketing team even cooked up an animation of Ryu lobbing a burger-shaped fireball at Akuma, who answers with a garlic projectile. When their energy clashes, it “creates” the burger.
- Chun-Li gets the Yurinchi Fried Chicken Mayonnaise Burger. Her featured animation? She squares off against Guile, keeping the action fast and flashy, just like her.
- Ken goes classic with a Triple Cheeseburger. It’s not as flashy in concept, but the campaign keeps it fun with a clip of Ken taking on M Bison.
The iconic phrase “喰らえ!うまいやつを!”, roughly “Take this! Something delicious!”, blasts across McDonald’s Japan’s social channels to hype the launch.
Fans were already speculating about a possible Street Fighter Happy Meal thanks to weeks of cryptic teasers on McDonald’s Japan’s Twitter. But for now, kids’ toys are off the table. The focus is all on these burgers, and the nostalgia they serve up with every bite.
Burgers, Fandom, and Avoiding a Pokémon-Like Meltdown

This is not McDonald’s first video game crossover in Japan, but everyone’s hoping it goes smoother than the company’s explosive Pokémon tie-in. That promo, which featured a limited-edition Pikachu Pokémon card, was supposed to run for three days. Instead, chaos quickly forced McDonald’s to shut it down after only one.
Why? The short answer: demand went nuclear. Customers spent thousands on meals just to get the cards, then abandoned the food outside. Reports also surfaced of employees reselling boxes of cards, making the fiasco even messier.
The Street Burgers campaign marks a return to fun without the frenzy. There’s no collector’s bait, just cleverly themed burgers and a dash of nostalgia. If you’re a Street Fighter fan in Japan, it’s a rare chance to “eat like your favourite fighter”, or at least grab a burger before they’re gone.
@McDonaldsJapan is where to catch the latest campaign animations and see which fighter gets the next big meal treatment. Just don’t expect this crossover to show up outside Japan anytime soon. If you want in, bring your appetite, and maybe your favourite Street Fighter move.
