Monster Hunter Wilds 1.042 offline quests: what the 26-quest update includes

Monster Hunter Wilds 1.042 offline quests: what the 26-quest update includes

July 29, 2026 Off

This version will expand offline quest access, but it does not cover every past Event Quest or make multiplayer work without an internet connection.

By Ibraheem Adeola

Monster Hunter Wilds Version 1.042 is scheduled for August 4, 2026. Capcom says the update will make 25 current Event and Challenge Quests playable without an internet connection. One formerly limited-time quest, Just What the Doctor Ordered, will also become permanent and playable offline.

That produces the announced total of 26 quests, but the split matters. The update does not promise offline access to every Event Quest ever released. It also does not make online multiplayer work without a connection. Capcom announced the update on July 28. As of July 29, it was not live, so these are planned changes rather than features players can use now. The details appear in Capcom’s Version 1.042 patch notes and an English reproduction published by RPG Site.

Which Monster Hunter Wilds 1.042 quests will work offline?

The patch covers 25 Event and Challenge Quests that are currently available. Players previously needed an online connection to accept these quests. Version 1.042 will allow them to be accepted and played offline, according to the announced notes. The available patch-note wording does not provide a full list of all 25 quests. It does name three confirmed examples:

  • Special Assignment: Slay Gogmazios
  • Freedom from Solitude
  • Event: The Dreamer’s Stairway

Do not assume that another quest is included simply because it appeared in an older event schedule. Capcom’s wording applies to the 25 quests that are currently available, not every historical Event Quest.

Why Capcom describes the update as 26 quests

The figure of 26 combines two parts of the update. The first is Just What the Doctor Ordered, a formerly limited-time Event Quest that will become permanent and playable offline. The other 25 are the current Event and Challenge Quests gaining offline access. AUTOMATON’s report on the Japanese announcement also explains the total as one newly permanent quest plus 25 existing quests. This does not mean Capcom is bringing back every older limited-time quest. The announcement confirms permanent status for Just What the Doctor Ordered, but it makes no broader promise about past events.

What Version 1.042 does not make available offline

The announced change covers accepting and playing the stated quests offline. It does not say that multiplayer systems, including online lobbies, cooperative hunts or SOS matchmaking, will work without an internet connection. This is also not the first Wilds update to move Event Quests offline. Capcom’s official Version 1.041 changelog said nine permanent online-only Event Quests had become playable offline. It also made 29 limited-time quests that rewarded equipment materials permanent and available offline. Version 1.042 continues that earlier change by adding offline access to another group of current quests.

How to check the complete offline quest list

The Version 1.042 notes say Capcom will adjust the Quest Counter list. The Quest Counter is the in-game menu used to select quests. After the update launches, players can disconnect their system and check which Event and Challenge Quests remain visible at the counter. That in-game check will be the clearest way to confirm every included quest because the announcement names only three examples. For now, the confirmed scope is 25 current Event and Challenge Quests, plus the newly permanent Just What the Doctor Ordered. The full offline list still needs to be checked in the live game after Version 1.042 arrives.
