Xbox Lets You Design Outer Worlds 2 Controllers, Custom Art and Upgrades Included
October 9, 2025Xbox fans can now create their own custom Outer Worlds 2 controllers through Xbox Design Lab. Microsoft just added special controller designs for the sci-fi RPG sequel, and they dropped today without warning. Players get two custom options: the standard Xbox Wireless Controller and the premium Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2. Both feature exclusive Moon Man and galactic rift artwork themed around The Outer Worlds 2.
Mix, Match, and Upgrade: Everything Customizable
The Outer Worlds 2 controllers aren’t just about the art. Xbox Design Lab lets you personalise a ton of details. You can swap in metallic triggers, a flashy metallic D-pad, rubberised grips on the sides and back, and even get the topcase engraved. It’s a lineup of options that make each controller feel genuinely unique.
The Elite Series 2 version pulls out the stops: adjustable-tension thumbsticks, a full wrap-around rubberised grip, and a reduced travel hair trigger lock for those who want a competitive edge. There are optional back paddles, too, if you want that pro-level touch. These features come on top of the signature custom Outer Worlds 2 artwork, turning each custom order into a collector’s piece.
Pricing starts at $94.98 for the standard Xbox Wireless Controller and jumps to $184.98 for the Elite Series 2. Both versions are available right now if you’re ready to show your fandom on day one.
Outer Worlds 2 Launch, Pricing Reversal, and Where to Play

That’s not the only shakeup from Microsoft and Obsidian. The Outer Worlds 2 releases this October 29th, and it’s dropping everywhere that counts: Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, PlayStation 5, Battle.net, and Steam. If you’re a subscriber, you’ll also see it available day one with Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass.
There was drama around the game’s original price tag. Obsidian and Microsoft had announced The Outer Worlds 2 as Xbox’s first $80 game, but fans didn’t let that slide. Obsidian acknowledged the backlash with a sly post: “We have received your SOS via skip drone about the pricing. As an organisation devoted to making sure that corporations do not go unfettered, we at the Earth Directorate have worked with [REDACTED] to revise the price of The Outer Worlds 2.” In short, the raised price plan was scrapped after swift community feedback.
So, here’s where we are: an RPG sequel about confronting corporate overreach, launching with fan-driven pricing and a full lineup of custom, eye-catching controllers that you can design yourself. If you want the ultimate Outer Worlds 2 setup, the gates are open.
