Resident Evil Requiem Smashes 7 Million Sales in Under Two Months, Breaks Franchise Record

Resident Evil Requiem Smashes 7 Million Sales in Under Two Months, Breaks Franchise Record

April 27, 2026 Off By Ibraheem Adeola

Capcom has officially confirmed that Resident Evil Requiem surpassed 7 million copies sold in less than two months, setting a new franchise sales speed record and fuelling speculation about upcoming DLC after a celebration event with Geoff Keighley.

Resident Evil Requiem, released in February 2026, has sold 7 million units in under two months, making it the fastest-selling entry in the globally popular survival horror series. The game’s momentum remains unmatched; its rapid sales trajectory eclipses previous series records, including the high bar set by Resident Evil 4 (2023), which took 12 months and one week to reach the same milestone.

The news was marked by a staff party at Capcom attended by Geoff Keighley, producer of The Game Awards. Director Koshi Nakanishi shared details from the event, including themed cakes celebrating protagonists Leon and Grace. Keighley was also pictured hosting an ‘after-party bingo,’ a scene preserved by social media users archiving Nakanishi’s Instagram stories.

Keighley acknowledged the achievement, posting on X (Twitter) on April 25, 2026:

Requiem is Resident Evil’s Fastest-Selling Game

Capcom reported that Resident Evil Requiem sold 5 million copies in less than one week following its February launch, reaching 6 million within a few weeks. According to Resident Evil historian Alex Aniel, this performance far outpaces all previous entries in the franchise. Aniel noted that Resident Evil 4 (2023) was the previous record-holder for fastest to 7 million, but required over twelve months to do so.

  • Resident Evil Requiem (2026): 7 million sales in under 2 months
  • Resident Evil 4 (2023): 7 million sales in 12 months + 1 week

Capcom’s best-selling Resident Evil game to date remains the Resident Evil 2 remake (2019), which has accumulated 16.8 million lifetime sales. Other top franchise performers include Resident Evil 7 with 16.4 million, Resident Evil Village with 13.5 million, and Resident Evil 4 (2023) at 12.2 million units. Capcom’s portfolio demonstrates strong ‘long-tail’ sales, with legacy titles continuing to achieve significant unit sales each financial year.

  • Resident Evil 2 (2019): 16.8 million sales
  • Resident Evil 7: 16.4 million sales
  • Resident Evil Village: 13.5 million sales
  • Resident Evil 4 (2023): 12.2 million sales

During the first nine months of Capcom’s current fiscal year, the company sold over 2 million units combined across Resident Evil 4 and Village, and more than 1 million units each of Resident Evil 7, Resident Evil 2, and Resident Evil 3.

Following the celebration, attention has turned to possible new announcements for Requiem. A photo featuring Keighley and director Koshi Nakanishi, shared via Instagram Stories and studio social accounts, spurred speculation about a Resident Evil Requiem DLC reveal potentially tied to June’s Summer Game Fest, which Keighley produces and Capcom regularly supports.

Capcom has already confirmed its commitment to Requiem’s ongoing support, stating:

Resident Evil Requiem is the latest installment in the Resident Evil series, which offers photorealistic visuals and a deep sense of immersion. Players can enjoy the elevated essence of the survival horror experience by the interplay between intense fear and exhilarating action, made possible by two protagonists.

The company added:

Going forward, Capcom plans to implement several measures, such as ongoing support and additional game content, so players can continue to enjoy the title longer.

This messaging, combined with the timing and high-profile attendance at the celebration event, has fans and industry observers anticipating an official DLC announcement in the coming months. Capcom has historically issued substantial post-release content for the Resident Evil franchise, with expansions and free updates contributing to each game’s “evergreen” sales profile.
