Silent Hill Legend Teases Creepy New Game: What We Know About the Creator’s Comeback

Silent Hill Legend Teases Creepy New Game: What We Know About the Creator’s Comeback

July 18, 2025 Off By Ibraheem Adeola

Keiichiro Toyama—the creative force behind the original Silent Hill (1999), Gravity Rush, and most recently Slitterhead is officially teasing another mysterious new project. Despite admitting concerns about his age, the legendary Japanese game designer isn’t slowing down. Speaking with Eurogamer, Toyama said he’s already brewing something sinister behind closed doors at Bokeh Game Studio.

Yes, the man responsible for birthing mind-bending nightmares like Silent Hill’s fog-drenched streets and the body-horror chaos of Slitterhead isn’t ready to hang up his horror boots just yet. In fact, he seems more energised than ever, age 54 and all. Toyama candidly admitted, “I’m starting to worry about how many more games I’ll be able to make in my life.” But instead of bowing out, he’s doing the opposite: greenlighting a brand-new horror concept and diving headfirst into pre-production before the studio even finishes current projects.

The Horror Continues: What Could Toyama Be Working On?

While details are scarce, his comments offer some pretty juicy hints. First, let’s not forget that Slitterhead, announced in 2021 and still in active development, was Toyama’s grand return to horror after decades in other gaming genres. But now he’s talking about another completely new game concept—one that’s already begun internal pitching and project setup at Bokeh.

His push to start early isn’t just driven by ambition but by legacy. Toyama said he needs to “start developing multiple projects in parallel” so that he can “spend more time overseeing the overall direction” while still being creatively involved. That ambition is likely what made Silent Hill hit so hard back in the PS1 era. The fear of running out of time seems to be fuelling his next twisted vision.

Could this be a spiritual successor to Slitterhead? A full-blown Slitterhead 2? Perhaps even a new psychological horror IP, closer in tone to Silent Hill, rather than his more recent work? While Toyama didn’t confirm any gameplay or story specifics, he did say he’s working to ensure this future game will be built around a “strong concept.” Knowing his track record, “strong” likely means grotesque, experimental, playfully unsettling.

For those unfamiliar, Toyama isn’t just any designer. His debut with Silent Hill in the late ’90s was one of the genre-defining moments of Japanese survival horror, rivalling Resident Evil but spiralling into more surreal and psychological spaces. His ability to channel urban dread and biological horror makes his return newsworthy, especially for fans tired of sterile, jumpscare-heavy horrors that dominate the market today.

Bokeh Game Studio, meanwhile, is a haven for talent freed from the restraints of big publishers. Formed in 2020 by Toyama and fellow alumni from Sony Japan Studio, it’s packed with veterans who’ve worked on Siren, Gravity Rush, and other cult favourites. Their commitment to weird, stylised experiences has earned them a cult following already, even before launching a major title. With this second project now in the pipeline, they’re gearing up to push boundaries once more.

Current-gen horror fans, particularly those drawn to third-person puzzle adventures and deeply atmospheric storytelling, should definitely keep their eyes on this. Even without a trailer, the excitement is justified. In an industry increasingly driven by franchise fatigue and risk aversion, a new game from Silent Hill’s creator could provide the necessary jolt to third-person horror in the modern age.

This new project, just like Slitterhead, is being developed for both PC and consoles. Expect a multi-platform release once development ramps up. No info yet on preorders, prices, or release windows—but if Toyama’s moving fast, we may see concept teases or trailers by early next year. And let’s be honest, he knows how to shock us, so don’t be surprised if it drops with a disturbing teaser out of nowhere.

The gaming world might be ageing, but its horror icons clearly aren’t finished just yet. With Keiichiro Toyama’s next twisted vision now gently creeping to life, brace yourselves for another round of dread-driven storytelling that only a true master of tension can deliver. Silent Hill fans, puzzle horror lovers, and Slitterhead’s loyal audience—something evil this way comes.
