Minecraft Invades Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds With New Paid DLC—Here’s Everything Packed In

Minecraft Invades Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds With New Paid DLC—Here’s Everything Packed In

October 11, 2025 Off By Ibraheem Adeola

The first paid guest DLC for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is out now, and it’s Minecraft crashing the party. Sega’s kart racer just got a major shot of creativity, with the new pack introducing playable characters, a fresh stage, classic music, custom decals, and more, all pulled straight from Mojang’s blocky universe.

The Minecraft Pack is available today for $5.99 / £4.99. If you already picked up the Digital Deluxe Edition or Season Pass, you own it. Otherwise, it’s also bundled with the Season Pass for $29.99 / £24.99, which will ultimately include six themed DLC packs.

The headline additions are clear: you can now tear around tracks as Steve, Alex, or a Creeper. Each Minecraft star also comes loaded with six unique emotes to show off between races. The new Minecart vehicle doesn’t just look the part; it comes with six exclusive decals so you can style your ride your way. The hallmark of this DLC, though, is the Minecraft World course, designed to fully capture the game’s instantly recognisable aesthetic within Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds.

Immersion goes deeper. The DLC pack includes five original Minecraft music tracks, plus new remixes, blending the familiar chill of Minecraft’s score with the high-energy vibe of CrossWorlds races.

No Paywall for Tracks or Matchmaking

Concerned about player base splits? Sega sidesteps fragmentation by making the new Minecraft World track automatically accessible to everyone online, even if you didn’t buy the DLC. You’ll face off against racers decked out as Minecraft legends, even if you’re sticking with Sonic and the gang. This means matchmaking isn’t fractured, and nobody gets left out of the new content rotation in online multiplayer.

If you’ve got the Digital Deluxe Edition, good news: every new paid pack, including Minecraft, will drop straight into your library. You don’t need to buy anything extra. The Season Pass approach is designed to keep superfans flush with fresh content through multiple cross-branded releases.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds’ Ambitious Crossover Roadmap

The Minecraft Pack is just the beginning. Five more paid DLC packs are locked in, covering some of the most recognisable brands in pop culture. Expect to see SpongeBob SquarePants (arriving November), Pac-Man, Mega Man, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, and Avatar Legends take over the roster in the coming months.

Paid content isn’t the whole story. Sega is also rolling out monthly free character updates with surprise Sega icons. The first to arrive was Hatsune Miku. Joker from Persona is set to drop later this month. Ichiban Kasuga from Like a Dragon joins the crew in November. Sharp-eyed fans may have spotted Nights on the physical box art, hinting at more guest racers on the horizon.

Critical Acclaim as a True Alternative for Kart Fans

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is grabbing headlines as a genuine contender for the karting crown. VGC’s review sums it up as “a great alternative to Mario Kart’s new open-world focus”. According to their writeup: “CrossWorlds is a brilliant karting game with satisfying handling, a fun portal mechanic and useful customisation options. Its weapons aren’t as punchy as we’d like, and it’s unclear how it’s going to keep players’ attention long-term, but it’s a genuine, more traditional alternative to Mario Kart now that Nintendo’s pointed its series in a new direction.”

With Minecraft kicking off a jam-packed schedule of paid and free content, and crossovers ranging from retro classics to modern blockbusters, Sega is making a play for everyone left nostalgic for the classic kart racing formula.
