Space Marine 2 Workshop opens, but nine-player co-op is not an official feature

Space Marine 2 Workshop opens, but nine-player co-op is not an official feature

Space Marine 2’s nine-player option comes from a PC mod, not Saber’s official co-op mode.

Space Marine 2 has not officially added nine-player co-op. The confusion comes from two closely timed releases: Patch 14.0, which is live across every platform, and the separate opening of the game’s official Steam Workshop on PC.

The patch brings a new Terminus enemy, the Scarab Occult Terminator Sorcerer. Steam Workshop support, meanwhile, gives players access to community-made mods, including listings intended to increase squad sizes. Those are not official multiplayer additions, and the specific nine-man option cited in recent coverage was not reliably available when its Steam pages were checked.

What Space Marine 2 Patch 14 actually adds

Focus Entertainment and Saber Interactive’s Patch 14.0 notes say the update is live on every platform. Its headline gameplay addition is the Scarab Occult Terminator Sorcerer, a new Terminus enemy that can use magic at close and long range and create illusions. The update also includes two PvP maps, Heroic items and Season Pass content, according to the official patch announcement. None of those official patch features is a higher-player-count co-op mode.

Why players are talking about nine-player squads

Two days after Patch 14 launched, Saber and Focus announced that the official Space Marine 2 Steam Workshop was open. The Workshop is available through Steam on PC and hosts mods made by the community rather than official game content.

The Workshop has listed large-squad items, including an entry called Add-on 9-man Squad AO 14.0. Its description advertises a team of up to nine players and/or bots, without class restrictions. That means a maximum nine-member team, not nine additional players joining a standard squad. The distinction matters. Steam’s Workshop page says the mods are made by players and are not officially licensed by Games Workshop. Saber has opened the platform to modding, but it has not announced an official nine-player co-op mode.

The nine-man mod was removed and marked incompatible

Players should not treat the nine-player claim as a dependable feature to install today. When TheDashDouble’s research checked the relevant Steam pages on 3 August 2026, the nine-man add-on displayed notices saying it had been removed from the community and was incompatible with Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2.

The add-on also requires Astartes Overhaul Full Edition 14.0, whose Steam listing showed the same removed and incompatible notices at that time. The overhaul’s author said that most Workshop mods were waiting on a Saber hotfix, while referring users to a version hosted elsewhere. That is not a confirmation that the nine-man setup currently works, and it is not a reason to assume it is safe or supported without a fresh check.

PC Gamer reported that Workshop add-ons could enable six- or nine-man squads. That reporting reflected the listings available at the time, but the later retrieval of the named nine-man item does not support presenting it as currently available or functional.

What players give up when using Space Marine 2 mods

Even where a Workshop mod is live and compatible, modded play is not the same as joining the normal online game. Saber and Focus say mod users are disconnected from public matchmaking and placed in private lobbies. Progress made while modding is also separated from progression in the official game.

  • Public matchmaking: unavailable while using mods.
  • Lobbies: mod users play in private lobbies.
  • Progression: modded progression is separate from official-game progression.
  • Large groups: the removed nine-man add-on said groups above three needed in-game session codes, and that Steam invites would not work.

In short, Patch 14 is an all-platform official update led by the new Scarab Occult Terminator Sorcerer. Steam Workshop is an official PC modding route, but nine-player squads are a community experiment with extra restrictions, not a new official co-op feature. Before organising a large group, check the mod’s live Steam status and compatibility on the day you intend to play.
