Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Gets First Full PC Patch After a Rocky Start—Here’s What’s Fixed

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Gets First Full PC Patch After a Rocky Start—Here’s What’s Fixed

February 9, 2025 Off By Ibraheem Adeola

If you’ve been swearing at your screen because Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on PC has been crashing harder than a web-slinging rookie, you’re not alone. The long-awaited PC version of Insomniac’s superhero sequel didn’t exactly launch with superheroic grace, earning a “mixed” review score on Steam thanks to frequent crashes, optimization issues, and some truly questionable ray tracing artefacts.

But good news! Insomniac and its porting partner Nixxes Software have just dropped the game’s first full PC patch, aiming to fix many of these headaches.

Is it a miracle cure? Maybe not. But at least it’s a step toward making Spider-Man 2 on PC actually playable—which, you know, would be nice after paying 70 bucks for it.

After multiple hotfixes failed to squash all the major issues, Insomniac and Nixxes have finally rolled out a full update for Spider-Man 2’s troubled PC version.

The biggest priority? Fixing crashes.

According to Insomniac, update v1.205.0.0 mainly targets crash reports submitted by frustrated players, along with some backup features for autosaves (because nothing stings more than losing hours of progress due to a random crash).

Key Fixes in the Latest Spider-Man 2 PC Update

🕷 Crash Fixes Based on Player Feedback

  • Insomniac has focused heavily on eliminating random crashes and improving crash reporting (so they can actually figure out why your game just spontaneously combusted).
  • If you’ve had Spider-Man 2 crash your desktop more times than you’ve web-slammed bad guys, this update is aimed at making that happen less often.

🕷 Better Ray Tracing (Goodbye, Haunted Hair?)

  • One of the weirdest graphical issues involved character hair looking like a cursed horror game texture when using DLSS Ray Reconstruction. That’s now been cleaned up.
  • Also, water reflections should no longer look like pixelated nightmares along shorelines.

🕷 More Control Over Visual Effects

  • Film Style Animation and Comic SFX can now be toggled in the settings menu (no more forced comic book-style effects if they weren’t your thing).
  • If you unlocked the Across the Spider-Verse Suit, these settings should now work correctly.

🕷 Improved UI and New Game+ Access

  • One of the unexpected complaints was how confusing it was to start a New Game+. This patch aims to make it simpler—because the only challenge should be fighting Venom, not navigating the menu.
  • The manual save/load menu now supports mouse scrolling (a small but much-needed fix).

What’s Still Broken?

Despite these improvements, not everything has been fixed just yet.

  • Insomniac acknowledged that some bugs remain and promised regular updates moving forward.
  • DLSS and ray tracing still need optimization, with some players reporting random lighting glitches.
  • Some audio desync issues persist, especially in cutscenes.

Why Did Spider-Man 2’s PC Launch Go So Wrong?

It’s no secret that Spider-Man 2 had a fantastic PlayStation 5 release, earning praise for its fluid gameplay, cinematic storytelling, and stunning visuals. So why did the PC port launch in such a rough state?

🔹 Rush to release? Some players speculate that the game wasn’t fully optimized before launch, leading to a situation where Insomniac had to patch it on the fly.

🔹 PC hardware variations? Unlike PS5, where everyone has the same system, PC gaming means a million different setups—some of which Spider-Man 2 clearly wasn’t ready for.

🔹 Over-reliance on updates? Some developers launch games in a half-finished state, expecting patches to fix everything later. It’s possible Insomniac bit off more than it could chew with this PC version.

Will Spider-Man 2’s PC Version Ever Be Perfect?

Look, it’s early days for this port, and Insomniac has a solid track record when it comes to fixing problems post-launch.

But if you’re still experiencing major crashes, you might want to hold off on playing until the next big update drops—because nothing kills the fun of web-swinging across New York like crashing to desktop mid-air.

For now, at least we know Insomniac and Nixxes are actively working on fixes—and hopefully, the next patch will bring Spider-Man 2’s PC version closer to the masterpiece it was on PlayStation 5.
