Spider-Man 2’s PC Launch Is a Web of Chaos – And Gamers Are Not Happy
February 3, 2025You’d think that when one of PlayStation’s biggest hits swings onto PC, it would be smooth sailing—or, at the very least, a functional experience. But no, Spider-Man 2’s Steam debut has crashed harder than a symbiote-fueled Venom smashing through a Manhattan skyscraper.
After launching on Steam, the Nixxes-developed PC port of Spider-Man 2 has been greeted with a less-than-heroic “Mixed” review rating. And no, it’s not because players suddenly lost interest in web-slinging through New York. It’s because, for a lot of them, the only thing slinging right now is their frustration… and maybe their GPUs straight into the trash.

A Game That “Performs Surprisingly Well” (Except When It Doesn’t)

Before release, Spider-Man 2’s PC port looked promising. The system requirements were surprisingly reasonable, and given Nixxes’ past success in bringing PlayStation exclusives to PC (Spider-Man Remastered, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart), fans were hopeful.
But those hopes came crashing down—literally. The game has been plagued with frequent crashes, stutters, and performance issues, leaving many players struggling to get past the opening sequences without their rigs throwing in the towel.
As of now, only 55% of Steam reviews are positive, which, for a game of this calibre, is about as shocking as J. Jonah Jameson admitting Spider-Man might actually be a good guy.
Crash, Stutter, Repeat: The Web of Technical Nightmares
PC players with high-end GPUs like the RTX 4090 have reported constant crashes, even with updated drivers. One user wrote:
“Despite having a high-end GPU and running the latest Nvidia drivers, the game frequently crashes.”
Another frustrated player added:
“This is completely unplayable. The game crashes to desktop every five minutes. I have already requested a refund.”
And just when you thought it couldn’t get worse? Lighting bugs, broken cutscenes, audio desync, long load times, and mysterious memory leaks are making their presence known—like an unwanted supervillain wreaking havoc in an otherwise peaceful gaming session.
One particularly exasperated user summed it up best:
“Hold off on buying until they get a couple of stabilization patches out because holy hell. To say this is ‘rough’ is an understatement.” Yikes.
Many players have noticed that performance starts strong but degrades rapidly over time. The frame rate dips, the stutters become unbearable, and then—BOOM—the game crashes. Some suspect a memory leak, meaning Spider-Man 2 could be slowly eating up RAM like Venom at an all-you-can-eat buffet.
Graphics Gone Wrong – When Even Spidey Can’t Save It

If crashing wasn’t bad enough, even when the game runs, it doesn’t exactly look right.
DLSS and ray tracing issues: Some players report that DLSS refuses to work properly, meaning no performance boost, just lag. And the ray-traced reflections? Well, let’s just say they look more like reflections from Spider-Man 1 on the PS2.
Missing textures and broken physics: NYC is starting to look less like a living, breathing city and more like an early 2000s tech demo. Some buildings vanish, some textures load at ultra-low res, and cutscenes occasionally break altogether, turning intense moments into bizarre frozen-frame slideshows.
Audio delays galore: Spidey quipping at bad guys? Awesome. Spidey quipping at bad guys five seconds after he’s already punched them? Not so much.
Nixxes Responds – But Gamers Are Skeptical

After the avalanche of negative feedback, Nixxes took to the Steam forums to respond:
“Sorry to hear you are experiencing issues. Please refer to our troubleshooting guide and contact us if the problem persists.”
And while it’s nice to get a response, it’s not exactly the “great power, great responsibility” level of commitment PC gamers were hoping for.
The studio also acknowledged a bug in the photo-op missions, advising players to drop their settings below 20 FPS to avoid it. Which, let’s be real, sounds like a weird way to “fix” something that should just work.
So, What’s Next?
Right now, the Spider-Man 2 PC port isn’t in great shape, and players are left wondering whether future patches will swing in fast enough to save the day. For now, if you were thinking of grabbing Spider-Man 2 on Steam, maybe wait a bit—unless you enjoy playing Russian roulette with your GPU. Or hey, if your game does work, enjoy it while you can… before your PC spontaneously combusts.
