Street Fighter 6 Latest Release Date, Gameplay, & Platforms
October 28, 2022It’s perfect timing, as the Street Fighter franchise marks its 35th anniversary this year, and it’s gearing up for a massive comeback – with Street Fighter 6. Street Fighter 6 sees the return of Ryu, Chun-Li, including new and old characters and a unique style for the iconic fighting game’s graphics. The entry is set to offer a completely different perspective on both what Street Fighter is and what AAA fighting games can be.
Street Fighter 6 aims to be a well-rounded and content-rich game, as opposed to Street Fighter 4 and 5, which were concerned with appeasing the competitive community while testing live-service features. With Street Fighter 6, players will now have more customization and control than ever – including more options available outside of choosing a character and stage. While we wait for more of Capcom’s Street Fighter 6 update from now up until its launch, here is everything we know.
Street Fighter 6: Gameplay
Street Fighter 6 is a fighting game, just in case you’ve never heard of it before, which is highly unlikely. You’ll fight, execute super moves, perform combos, and do everything else you’d expect in a fighting game. The addition of a second control scheme is an intriguing new feature that can benefit beginners. Unlike the franchise’s traditional 6-button layout to pull off special moves, a modern control scheme is introduced to simplify that. With the modern control scheme, players won’t need to practice complex combinations to perform special actions. Instead, special moves are linked to a single button, which you can use to perform a particular special move.
The Drive System, which at least physically resembles the Focus mechanic from Street Fighter 4, is a vital new feature of Street Fighter 6. You can use the Drive metre in five ways – Drive Impact, Drive Parry, Overdrive, Drive Rush, or Drive Reversal. All these features share the Drive metre with different inputs, so you must allocate it carefully depending on whether you want to use it for offence or defence.
Street Fighter 6: Fighting Ground
Street Fighter 6’s Fighting Ground is the basic area where players can compete with other opponents – versus, online and in extreme battles. With extreme battles, players can create their own rules and gimmicks for battles, like having bombs randomly spawn during a fight.
Street Fighter 6: Battle Hub
The Battle Hub is a brand-new social feature in Street Fighter 6. It is where players can meet up with fighters from around the world to have fun and establish unforgettable rivalries. Meet other players by using the avatar you created in World Tour and also access Fighting Ground’s online features. In addition, you can partake in tournaments, buy cosmetics, and play some classic Capcom arcade games.
Street Fighter 6: World Tour
The World Tour mode is simply a fascinating single-player story mode. You can freely roam the streets of Metro City and explore the surroundings with your character—who may be customizable. There are numerous areas to explore, barrels to destroy, and NPCs with whom to engage in combat. For the time being, it is unknown what the plot is, who you play as, or what type of growth or goal the open world serves in Street Fighter 6.
Street Fighter 6: Release Date
Street Fighter 6 doesn’t have a confirmed release date yet, however, Capcom has given us a hint of when to expect it. During Sony’s June 2022 State of Play, the studio revealed, via a new trailer, that Street Fighter 6 will be released in the summer of 2023.
Platforms
Unlike Street Fighter 5, Street Fighter 6 will concurrently launch on PC, PS4, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. This is fantastic news, especially for Xbox users who missed the previous entry which was a console-only release.
