Finding the Yellow-Robed Squire
You’ll find the Yellow-Robed Squire at the Fright Cliff location, specifically in the Rockrest Flat area. He’s passed out drunk in a large open field beyond a shrine and is guarded by a Spearbone enemy. The drunken boar asks you to gather items, including a Sobering Stone and Jade Lotus, to help him continue his quest.
- Sobering Stone: You can purchase one from the Man-in-Stone after finishing his questline, or find one hidden in a glowing pot at Windrest Hamlet.
- Jade Lotus: This item can be harvested from pools of water across the map, including at the beginning of Chapter 2.
Once these items are collected, the boar will send you on another task before he ultimately challenges you for the Arhat Gold Piece—which can be obtained by defeating the First Prince of Flowing Sands in the Valley of Despair.
Yellow-Robed Squire Boss Fight Guide
Despite his intoxicated demeanour, the Yellow-Robed Squire is a formidable opponent, and defeating him requires understanding his sand-based attacks and timing your moves carefully.
Attack Combos:
- Pocket Sand & Tusk Charge: The fight usually begins with a blinding sand attack, followed by a fast charge attack to gore you with his tusks. A well-timed deflection using Rock Solid will allow you to counter his charge and mitigate the damage.
- Dust Claw Swipe: This three-part combo involves a dust cloud, two swipes, and a delayed jump attack. Watch out for the tremors caused by his impact when he lands.
- Impaling Claw Dash: One of his deadliest moves, the Yellow-Robed Squire charges his claws before lunging at you. Parry this attack to stagger him, but avoid dodging backwards—he covers a lot of ground quickly.
Strategic Moves:
- Blinding Sand & Ring Blade: As the battle progresses, the boar will throw sand in your direction and summon a deadly ring blade. He uses this in combination with his regular attacks, making the fight even more dangerous. Time your deflections to parry these combos, especially when he delays his follow-up attacks.
- Spear of Sand: If you retreat too far, he can summon a glowing spear made of sand, which he hurls at you with speed. Always be ready to dodge or deflect when this attack is telegraphed.
- Retreat & Thrust: One of the best tactics during this battle is to use the Thrust Stance to retreat from his combos and re-engage with heavy attacks. This will help you avoid getting blinded by sand while also keeping up the pressure on his claws and tusks.
As the Yellow-Robed Squire’s health decreases, his attacks will increase in ferocity, and he’ll mix in more ring blade summons and sand-based attacks. Stay calm, use your Rock Solid parries, and keep hitting him with heavy thrusts to bring him down.
Rewards for Defeating the Yellow-Robed Squire
Once you’ve finally bested the Yellow-Robed Squire, you’ll be rewarded with the Snout Mask—a headgear that adjusts your attack power based on gourd usage—and 1102 Experience and 1037 Will. After the fight, he will invite you to explore the Realm of Gold together before vanishing behind a massive gate, leaving you to continue your journey with newfound power.
