Life is Strange: True Colors is a fresh start for the franchise, with Deck Nine at the helm.

Before the events of Life is Strange 2, Life is Strange: True Colors introduces a new protagonist. Alex Chen, like her name implies, possesses the extraordinary power of empathy. While this is an example of how True Colors differs from previous entries, one of the most significant changes is the removal of the title’s numerology.  Life is Strange: True Colors is the game’s third mainline entry, making it Life is Strange 3 in some ways. However, there are numerous reasons why the number three is incorrect. To begin with, Life is Strange: True Colors is not a straight sequel to Life is Strange 1 or 2.

From gamerant, according to Deck Nine Narrative Director, Felice Kaun to explain why this new entry isn’t called Life is Strange 3: “We are embracing what Dontnod started,” she says. Faun continued, adding that “part of the reason it’s called Life is Strange: True Colors and not Life is Strange 3 is because it’s a game that anybody can start with.” The main takeaway is that the game is being utilized as an introduction to the franchise, with the new name serving as a method to welcome newcomers. Life is Strange 2 isn’t a straight sequel to Life is Strange 1, yet some of the latter’s decisions are reflected in the first. At the start of Life is Strange 2, players must choose one of two endings from Life is Strange 1. Returning characters and subtle references from Life is Strange 1 appear in Life is Strange 2, tying the two games together. Life is Strange: True Colors, on the other hand, has only confirmed one returning character. Life is Strange: Before the Storm, a prequel to the original game features the character in question.

Here is the official trailer of Life is Strange: True Colors

Life is Strange 1 and 2 were developed by Dontnod Entertainment, while Life is Strange: Before the Storm was created by Deck Nine Studios. Life is Strange: True Colors is being developed by Deck Nine, rather than Dontnod, with the latter expected to be engaged with future instalments in the franchise. This could be the other reason for titling the game Life is Strange: True Colors rather than Life is Strange 3. Life is Strange: True Colors is a fresh start for the franchise, with Deck Nine at the helm.
