When Sirens Fall Silent: LKA Reveals Psychological Horror Game Set in 1990s Italy with First Gameplay and Multi-Ending Narrative
June 7, 2026LKA, the studio behind Martha is Dead, has unveiled the first gameplay for its next project, When Sirens Fall Silent—a psychological serial killer horror game set in early 1990s Italy, releasing on PC in 2027 with a multi-layered, branching narrative and multiple endings.
When Sirens Fall Silent marks LKA’s return to psychological horror following the controversy surrounding Martha is Dead. Unveiled during the Day of the Devs showcase, the game immerses players in the shoes of Mila, a rookie police officer entangled in a disturbing investigation of a serial killer known only as The Man. The title promises a ‘disturbing investigation,’ where ‘as the case spirals deeper into violence and psychological horror, reality begins to fracture,’ according to LKA.
Gameplay, Setting, and Thematic Focus
When Sirens Fall Silent is set in early 1990s Italy and challenges players with environmental puzzles, interrogations, suspect investigations, hidden truths, and choices determining ‘who the real monster truly is.’
- Main character: Rookie police officer Mila
- Antagonist: Serial killer known as The Man
- Location: Real-world Italian settings of the 1990s
- Gameplay features: Investigating crime scenes, interrogating suspects, branching narrative, multiple endings, and environmental puzzles
- Themes: Misogyny, trafficking, trauma, morality, redemption, and perception
- Soundtrack: 90s Italian electronic music, Mediterranean folk, opera, experimental sound design by Femina Ridens
According to LKA, the story deals directly with ‘misogyny, trafficking, trauma, morality, redemption, and perception’ as Mila’s investigation unfolds. The game’s narrative will adapt to player decisions, supporting a ‘multi-layered’ structure with multiple endings based on investigative choices.
LKA states: “Players must investigate crime scenes, interrogate suspects, uncover hidden truths, and decide who the real monster truly is.”
The title blends investigative gameplay with psychological horror, building on LKA’s reputation for confronting difficult topics in interactive narratives.
LKA Studio Track Record and Background
LKA previously earned critical attention for its debut, The Town of Light (2016), which Eurogamer described as an ‘impactful exploration of mental health that presents a very different kind of horror.’ The studio’s next release, Martha is Dead (2024), generated major controversy for its unflinching content. Eurogamer contributor Vikki Blake called the game ‘a promising Italian horror [that] descends into incoherent chaos’ in a three-star review.
Martha is Dead was heavily modified on PlayStation after Sony objected to some of its more extreme, interactive body horror sequences. ‘Squeamish Sony demanded ‘modifications’ to some of its playable sequences before agreeing to allow its release on PlayStation,’ the report notes. The PlayStation version shipped with the most graphic content made non-interactive and several references removed entirely, while the Xbox and PC versions released uncensored. A live-action adaptation, the Martha is Dead movie, was announced in 2024.
When Sirens Fall Silent was first announced in December 2025. Its first gameplay showing during the 2026 Day of the Devs event gave players a tangible sense of its investigatory mechanics and 90s Italian aesthetic, ahead of its PC release slated for 2027.
- Developer: LKA (creators of The Town of Light, Martha is Dead)
- Game title: When Sirens Fall Silent
- Genre: Psychological horror, investigative adventure
- Release window: 2027 (PC)
- First revealed: December 2025
- First gameplay revealed: June 2026 (Day of the Devs)
With a precedent for confronting trauma and psychological distress in its games, LKA is positioning When Sirens Fall Silent as a major evolution of its signature narrative style. The soundtrack will feature an ‘eclectic blend of 90s Italian electronic music, Mediterranean folk, opera, and experimental sound design by Femina Ridens.’ The game’s branching narrative structure and emphasis on moral ambiguity signal LKA’s continued commitment to boundary-pushing storytelling in video games.
