Cyberpunk 2077 live-action movie: What CD Projekt RED confirmed about Paramount

October 10, 2026 Off

Major details, including the story, cast, director and release date, remain unannounced.

By Ibraheem Adeola

A live-action movie set in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe is reportedly in development at Paramount Pictures, with Lorenzo di Bonaventura producing alongside CD Projekt RED. The game developer has acknowledged Paramount as a future partner, but most creative and release details remain unannounced.

The initial film report originated with Deadline and was relayed by Game Informer and other outlets. The Deadline report was not directly available for this review, and no Paramount or CD Projekt RED newsroom announcement detailing the film was retrieved. CD Projekt RED joint CEO Michał Nowakowski’s subsequent public statement nevertheless corroborates the existence of a Paramount partnership.

What CD Projekt RED confirmed about Paramount

In a public post on October 8, 2026, Nowakowski said:

“We’re excited about Paramount as a future partner who shares our creative ambitions for the Cyberpunk franchise. We look forward to sharing more details at the appropriate time.”

The statement was reported by GamesRadar+.

Nowakowski’s wording confirms that CD Projekt RED regards Paramount as a future franchise partner. It is not, however, a full production announcement: the statement does not identify a director, writer, cast, story or release date.

What is reported about the Cyberpunk 2077 movie

  • Studio: The movie is reported to be in development at Paramount Pictures.
  • Producer: Lorenzo di Bonaventura is reported to be producing alongside CD Projekt RED.
  • Setting: Reports describe a live-action film set in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe.
  • Status: The project is described as being in development, not in production.

Gematsu reported that di Bonaventura will produce the movie with CD Projekt RED and reproduced Nowakowski’s statement in a subsequent update. Di Bonaventura’s producing credits include films in the Transformers and G.I. Joe series.

The cast, director, story and release date remain unknown

No director, screenwriter, cast member, story details or release date has been announced in the reporting reviewed for this article. There is also no evidence that the film will directly adapt V’s storyline from Cyberpunk 2077.

Keanu Reeves and Idris Elba therefore should not be treated as attached to the movie. The available reports do not establish that Johnny Silverhand, Solomon Reed or any other character from the game will appear.

It also remains unknown whether the movie will use familiar locations or characters, or instead tell a separate story within the wider Cyberpunk 2077 universe.

Is this the Anonymous Content project announced in 2023?

CD Projekt RED announced a different live-action development arrangement in October 2023. Its official announcement said the company had begun collaborating with Anonymous Content on a project set in the world of Cyberpunk 2077. At the time, it was described as being at an early stage and searching for a screenwriter to tell a new story.

The 2023 announcement does not mention Paramount. Conversely, the current reports do not explain whether the Paramount movie is the same project, an evolution of that project or a separate undertaking. The available evidence does not support equating the two.

What happens next

The clearest supported picture is that Paramount is the reported home of a live-action Cyberpunk 2077 movie, CD Projekt RED has publicly welcomed the studio as a future franchise partner, and di Bonaventura is reported to be producing. A fuller announcement is still needed to establish the filmmakers, cast, story and release plans.
