Who Is Gorr The god Butcher?

Gorr’s Early Life

According to the comics, Gorr the God Butcher was born on an unnamed planet where he lived on the verge of starvation practically every day. He once had a crippled leg and was known to have an inquisitive attitude. He was raised to believe in the gods, yet they never seemed to respond to his prayers. Gorr’s mother and father died when he was young, leaving him to fend for himself in the harsh environment. Years later, he married Arra and the two had sons and daughters together. Arra, on the other hand, died while pregnant in an earthquake. Except for Agar, all of Gorr’s children died of the same sun fever disease that killed his father. When Agar was on the verge of dying from starvation, Gorr tried to console him by telling him that they would soon arrive in a forest where they would never starve again.

However, Agar did not survive the journey as a result of starvation and heat stroke. All these events of grief and suffering made Gorr lose all hope in the existence of the gods. As a result, he started committing blasphemous acts such as burying Agar in the soil and claiming that there are no gods. Gorr’s acts caused his superstitious tribe to stone him in order to prevent the gods from hearing his lies. They painted him to be of the black gods and that his crippled leg was indeed a sign of the accursed.

Following his exiling, Gorr wandered the desert and constantly prayed to die. He came across two battling gods who had fallen from the sky and crashed into the land nearby. A battle between a dark elder god known as Knull and a gold-armoured, purple-skinned god empowered by the Enigma Force. Gorr was outraged when the gold-armoured god begged for help, having been shocked by the realisation that gods existed. Then, from the sword of the black-armoured god, an ooze-like substance surged up into Gorr’s hand and formed into a spearheaded weapon. Gorr killed the gold-armoured god with the spearhead weapon known as All-Black the Necrosword. Immediately after his first god-killing, he vowed vengeance on the gods for never answering his prayers and set out to kill them all.

It fell from the sky many years ago, on a world without a name. I picked it up… and butchered my first gods. And then as I stood there, baptized in their blood. A question formed in my simple little brain… I wonder if there are more?Gorr The god Butcher

Gorr detested all gods and spent thousands of years travelling the cosmos exacting retribution. Thus earning himself the nickname, ‘Gorr the god butcher.’

Gorr The god Butcher: Powers and Attributes

Gorr has no superpowers without the All-Black the Necrosword. The All-Black is a primitive amorphous weapon spawned by the evil Knull. When Knull became incapacitated, it left him and bonded with Gorr which enabled him to gain powers beyond the ability to kill gods. Furthermore, the sword bestows upon him immense super strength as well as the power to develop wings that enable him to glide. He can create weapons as well as a cloud of darkness. Gorr is also nearly immortal, having spent years slaughtering gods throughout the universe. He spent thousands of years in combat and just as many years learning to be a master torturer throughout his life. This is evident in one of his claims of torturing the god of torture himself.

Gorr and Thor are set against one another in a conflict that involves time travel, several Thors, and various symbiotes. When Gorr defeated god Chronux, he acquired the Pool of Forevers and utilised it to travel across time. He travelled back in time to slay one of the universe’s first elder gods. After that, he travelled to the desolate Earth-14412, where he enslaved all of the gods except All-Father Thor, AKA King Thor. Gorr tortured King Thor for 900 years while also persuading the other enslaved gods to construct the god bomb, which was designed to kill anybody who claimed godliness.

Gorr met Thor for the first time in Medieval Iceland. Thor noticed the gods turning up dead and discovered that Gorr was the one behind it. While both of them survived their first combat, Thor amputated Gorr’s arm, prompting him to assume he had defeated the god butcher. Gorr proceeds to murder gods across the world, but he remembers his encounter with Thor and vows to destroy him. Thor noticed gods turning up dead hundreds of years later, and when he investigated their deaths and disappearances, he recognised Gorr’s handiwork. Gorr now has the might of an army of shadow Berserkers (dark minion symbiotes) behind him, and the two meet and battle once more.

Christian Bale as Gorr the god Butcher In The MCU’s Thor: Love and Thunder

Gorr-Christian Bale

Certainly, Thor: Love and Thunder will surely give fans their proper first look at Christian Bale’s Gorr the god butcher. Whether Christian’s Gorr would be a one-off villain or a terrifying foe is still quite unclear. However, recent comic book history has revealed a lot about where Christian’s character might be headed in this first debut. Having said that, The MCU has a history of drawing inspiration from comic book plots and adding their twists to varying degrees. Jane Foster, for instance, might take part in the clash with Gorr since she is seen wielding the hammer in the film, which is not the case in the comics.

The new addition of the multiverse to the MCU might also be used to alter or mess with the storyline. For example, the comics portrayed the second encounter between Gorr and Thor to involve Thor from the first battle and a future Thor. Should the movie portray this, these Thors may be from different timelines or universes than the one we know. In case Gorr the god butcher doesn’t make it in Thor: Love and Thunder, there is still a chance that he could make a return to the MCU in some way. The presence of the multiverse could play a huge role here.
