Scarface ‘Remaster’ Sparks Outrage as PC Release Appears Without Owner’s Consent
October 24, 2025A so-called remaster of Scarface: The World is Yours landed on the Epic Games Store out of nowhere, and it’s got modders, fans, and even the publisher scrambling for answers. The surprise release, priced at $29.99 / £23.79, looks like it may have slipped through without approval from the very people who own the Scarface movie rights.
What’s more, this version isn’t what most players would call a true remaster. Instead, it’s the same 2006 game with two popular fan-made mods included: SilentPatch and Fusion Fix. The biggest twist? The creators of those mods say they weren’t even notified.
Publisher Backpedals as Modders Sound the Alarm
Things got weirder when the supposed publisher, EC Digital, dropped a statement stating the game “was unintentionally pushed live on a different platform earlier than planned”, vowing to speed up the Steam release. They added that an optional HD graphics upgrade, using AI-assisted upscaling, would be included for Steam. But, here’s the kicker: the launch trailer attached to the listing is just the original promo from 2006. Nothing new, nothing remastered, not even a remix. The music and footage are straight out of the past.
Reddit user PCMachinima bought the new Epic version, hoping for something fresh. Instead, they found the original PC version, now bundled with the SilentPatch and Fusion Fix mods. These patches are both respected in the fan community for fixing bugs and modernising old titles. But the modders themselves were left out of the loop. Silent, author of SilentPatch, said on X that they had not been contacted or informed about this release.
Silent also raised a much bigger question: who actually approved this? They wrote, “I KNOW that the holder of the Scarface license wasn’t willing to re-release the game, so this is suspect.” Silent looked deeper and posted again, saying the movie IP rights holder, NBCUniversal, appears to be completely unaware of this store listing, and “store listings were put early in error.”
Publisher Hides Its Tracks—But Game Still on Sale

Later in the day, EC Digital tried to cool things off. They said they’ve “entered urgent discussions with multiple parties concerning the project’s status” and that they’re working with Valve to temporarily pull the Steam store page. The publisher said the page was supposed to be a placeholder during ongoing licensing and technical matters, but the game got released elsewhere by mistake, “causing unexpected complications and concerns.”
Despite the drama, as of now, Scarface: The World is Yours remains up for sale on the Epic Games Store.
Players and collectors should probably hold off on buying. The situation is far from clear, and there’s a real risk this isn’t a fully authorised release. If you’re a fan of the movie or game, you might want to wait until licensing is sorted out and the real story emerges. For now, it looks less like a triumphantly restored crime classic and more like a messy, possibly bootleg reappearance.
For trivia fans, there was once a planned sequel that would have taken Tony Montana to Las Vegas. It never saw the light of day, but some concept art and early gameplay did leak in 2022. As for this “remaster,” the only thing Scarface fans can trust right now is the confusion.
