Tailbreak launched on Xbox August 7: price, co-op and Railbreak DLC change

August 8, 2026 Off

Tailbreak launched on Xbox as a $24.99 standalone follow-up to Railbreak.

Tailbreak launched on Xbox Series X|S on August 7, 2026, bringing Dead Drop Studios’ dinosaur-themed on-rails shooter to the platform as a standalone game. The U.S. Xbox Store lists a regular price of $24.99. When checked on August 8, it also displayed a temporary sale price of $22.49, a $2.50 discount, so buyers should confirm the current price before purchasing. Xbox’s official product page has the current regional pricing.

This is not simply the Railbreak add-on some players may have expected. Dead Drop Studios previously told backers that Tailbreak had been announced as add-on content for Railbreak but was now releasing as a “stand-alone, expanded sequel.” The Xbox Store describes the finished game as both a follow-up to Railbreak and a retelling of the studio’s earlier DINOBREAK. The developer’s July BackerKit update documents that change in plans.

Tailbreak’s Xbox features

  • Platform: Optimized for Xbox Series X|S.
  • Co-op: Local co-op for two players, with shared and split-screen play listed.
  • Xbox Play Anywhere: The official store listing carries the Xbox Play Anywhere badge.
  • Other listed capabilities: Ray tracing and cloud saves.

Dead Drop Studios says co-op is available throughout the full game rather than being restricted to a separate mode. In its Xbox Wire launch announcement, the studio also identifies Tailbreak as an arcade-style on-rails shooter and confirms the $24.99 U.S. list price.

According to the official Xbox description, Tailbreak includes a fully voiced, six-act Story mode, a two-slot item system, Arrange mode and Mutation Matrix mode. Those are developer and storefront descriptions rather than independently tested assessments, but they clarify the scope of the standalone release beyond its origins as planned add-on content.

For Xbox players, the practical answer is that Tailbreak is a paid Xbox Series X|S release with two-player local co-op and Xbox Play Anywhere support. The official product page does not identify it as a Game Pass title. For more platform coverage, visit TheDashDouble’s Xbox Series X|S news section.

Steam and PS5 availability is not confirmed here

Dead Drop Studios’ July update named PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox Play Anywhere and Steam in an August 7 launch plan. However, the official Steam page still displayed a “Q3 2026” release window when checked on August 8, and no official PlayStation Store listing was available in the reviewed evidence. The Xbox release is confirmed, but this article does not treat the Steam or PS5 editions as confirmed live.
