Why It Was Easy For Thanos Sword to Break Captain America’s Shield

Why It Was Easy For Thanos Sword to Break Captain America’s Shield

November 25, 2023 Off By Ibraheem Adeola

In Avengers: Endgame, Thanos comes out swinging with a sword that’s way too strong for the Avengers to handle. It’s crazy to see Thanos obliterate Captain America’s shield like it was nothing. It really makes you wonder just how powerful Thanos’ weapon actually is.

The Mystery Behind Thanos Sword’s Origin

As the fight between Thanos and Earth’s mightiest heroes continues, Thanos easily shatters Captain America’s Vibranium shield, which is supposed to be indestructible. Despite Vibranium being known for its unbeatable strength in the Marvel universe, Thanos’ sword overpowers it. It’s unclear where exactly Thanos’ sword came from, but there are hints in the Marvel stories that give us an idea of what it’s made of.

In Avengers: Infinity War, Thanos gets the Dwarf King Eitri to make him the Infinity Gauntlet on Nidavellir, a neutron star that’s home to the Dwarves and the special metal ore called Uru. Mjolnir, Stormbreaker, and Thanos’ Infinity Gauntlet all come from Uru, which looks like stone but has mystical powers. After Thanos gets the gauntlet, he gets rid of the Dwarves, so it’s unclear where his sword came from.

It could be similar to Thor’s Necrosword in Thor: Love and Thunder, or it could have been made by the mysterious Celestials. These ancient beings are known for their ability to mould matter itself, making it plausible that they crafted a weapon stronger than anything from the Nine Realms, including Uru and Vibranium.

Thanos’ Sword vs. All-Black

Thor: Love and Thunder introduced the All-Black weapon, which had the power to kill gods. The Necrosword, formerly owned by Knull, the God of the Symbiotes, was able to create objects and beings cloaked in darkness. Despite the power of the Necrosword being contained within the reforged Mjolnir, the potential for a battle between All-Black and Thanos’ double-edged sword is zero to none – but would be very intriguing to see it happen, I mean, it’s Marvel!
